very low beta: is it over?

Hi anyone out there who did their blood test after ivf and got an extremely low beta? i just got my result and the beta is only 18.6 it should be between 50 and 100. the nurse said i should assume it's chemical and should expect to bleed in the next few days. They will check the beta in the next 2 days. Should I assume it's over? She said be cautiously optimistic and she didn't sound optimisitc at all! would love feedback.

so it didn't miraculously quadruple like i hoped, it crept up one measly point so i have to stay on the progesterone and take ANOTHER blood test on friday till it starts declining. Hope I'm luckier next time. it was nice to be pregnant for 4 days...:(

Did you get your beta rechecked today?
I had mine done yesterday and it went back down, unfortunately it was a chemical.

How many days past retrieval are you?  I just got a very low beta. At 11dpr (8dp3dt) it was negative, at 13dpr (10dp3dt) it was barely postive and now I am waiting for beta#3 to see if it has risen.  My Dr said he wanted to keep checking b/c he has seen these low betas produce babies.  He didn't give me false hope and said that it will probably be a chemical but since there is that chance it is worth seeing what happens.  There is a woman on ivfconnections (actually several that start with really low betas <10) and hers started at 2.3 11dpr and 10 at 13dpr and she is now 16wks along and everything is fine.  I would say to stay cautiously optimistic.  Unfortunately biology is not always predictable so I think it is worth giving your embryo te benefit of the doubt.  Good luck to you.
