children are very resilient and adaptable. Out of all the people who don't understand - mainly the whole world- my grandchildren are brilliant. It's horrible when they want you to play with them, and you want to but you can't, it makes you feel sick, But I've just told them that Nanna gets very tired sometimes (23.99 out of 24!) because I have a problem in my body. It's not catching but it does make me unhappy because I can't play with them properly or take them out.
They are all so kind to me and if i have been playing a board game or doing an activity with them , one of them will say "come on Nanna, time to have a rest"
Out of the mouths of babes. I just wish they had influence over the rest of the population. so, Re. your sister, I'd explain it simply like that and add that if you get grumpy take no notice. Ask her, if she couldn't do things she wanted to do and had a tired pain all the time, wouldn't she be grumpy? Make sure you reinforce that it's not her, it's not her fault and you love her to bits. And, plan all the things you're gong to to do together once you get better.
I've promised my grandaughter that I'll take her to see the Queen when I'm feeling better!
Haven't quite worked out how we would achieve this if i was well, it was a rash moment but I can't break my promise. anyone know any royals?xx
My brother was at a very similar age when he started asking lots of question of why I am always tired and seemed in pain all the time.
I recommend you get on the internet with her or buy the book Fibromyalgia for dummies. Go through it with her and that will help her see and read for herself what you are going through, rather than having you explain it with her. You will also bond with her more when searching all the info with her. hope this helps :)
oh no. adults and drs have enough trouble understanding it! they also have pre-formed ideas, so there's hope with the youngster she's up for new info. maybe describe viruses that replicate through our body and trash it. and the viruses are active and sometimes they're not.
good luck, I've had little success finding people who've understood... : /
