Rheumy appointment, freaky.........:)

Good morning;
   I had my appointment yesterday with my Rheumy and he had the results of my last blood work. Everything is still the same and my sed rate was still normal. But, my dam hands wre killing me at the time and he had me xrayed. All ten of my fingers are showing signs of damage, especially my thumbs. They are twisted and hurt so bad. He sat down beside me and shook his head. He told me that I was one of those patients that really wears on his mind....:)

   He told me that I definitely had RA but tested negative, oh joy. He gave me a script for Sulfasalazin 500mg to take twice a day.  So, I guess we'll see what happens. I hope everyone is having a better day.

gentle hugs

kiddthekatt - I'm sorry that it didn't help.  I was hoping it would make it all better for you.  Please let us know how it goes in the morning after your office visit.  **and stop bumping everything, lol**

krikket - Welcome to the community.  Sorry to hear you are having such a bad time.  I hope the patches will continue to give you some relief.  I know how bad arthritis can get as my best friend has RA all over and it's debilitating, to say the least.

Hope you both feel better soon.  Take care.

Hi there;
   Thank you for your post and I wanted to welcome you to the FMS/CFS community. I hear ya when you say you don't feel a bit special.......lol Dang fingers are all swollen and goofy looking. I told my Rheumy that my Mom had had RA and her hands were so crippled. Her left hand was twisted almost into a knot.

   I tried Lyrica, and Neurontin, both made me almost blind and I had horrible headaches. He finally put me on Ultram ER 200mg 2 X day. It's helped a whole lot but didn't touch my joint pain. So my internist put me on Norco. I still have pain and I'm just now getting over a b***ch of a flare, but the pain is more manageable.

   Did your Rheumy put you on an antidepressant? I take Zoloft and a mucle relaxer. I also have a mild sleeping pill for sleep. Plus a truckload of Vitamins...:(

   Again welcome to our community, and I hope you feel better soon.

I also have bad arthritis in my hands, swollen and twisted thumbs, etc.  My blood work always comes back negative, but my Rheumy told me that she thinks I have a "special" form of it that effects women only and is only in the hands., (and nooooo..i don't feel the least bit "spppeeeecial"..lol)  I had asked because i have 3 sons and worried about them.  While I have arthritis all over my body, my hands are by far the worst.  Since I have a history of an ulcer and most anti-inflamatories make my stomach she put me on a patch, called Flector.  It's expensive and doesn't work as well as the pills, but it has far few side effects which are important to me.  I also take lyrica, which also upsets my stomach, but the FM pain is so much worse, I've traded one kind of pain for another.

i hope by now your thumbs are starting to get better by now.. Good luck.

Afternoon all;
   Well, so far the Sulfasalazine 500mg has made my tummy kinda yukky, but I took it with Vitamin this morning and that helped. My thumb looks like I beat the heck out of it with a hammer.....:( I can't stand to touch it and of course I bump everything I reach for.

   I called my Rheumy's office this morning and he called me right back. I told him the shot didn't help and explained what my thumb looked like. All he said was," Woman! What am I going to do with you?" To say the least, I was dumbfounded..........LMAO. I have an appointment to see him in the morning. I told him before I hung up that I wanted to pay a deposit on one of his patient rooms so that it will be ready for me at any time. Thank goodness he has a sense of humor.

gentle hugs to all

LOL, how are you feeling today? If my dang thumb didn't hurt so bad, I might feel a tad better, but you know as well as I do, something will hurt some place just to keep us from having any relief..:)

  Thank you very much. I also have osteoarthritis, geez, I'm going to run out of joints at this rate. He also gave me a shot in each thumb yesterday, hurt like crazy but he said they would settle down in a couple of days, but today my right thumb is red and swollen. It depends on what they look like in the morning and then I'll call him if I have to. Take care.

Gosh...I guess he is puzzled that you are showing the damage, but the testing comes back negative.  I'm sorry that you are having such a difficult time with everything.  RA is so horrible...my best friend here suffers with it and must take weekly shots (which are outrageously expensive).  I sure wish you had gotten better news and hope that the  medication will work for you.

Keep your head up and we'll pray for better days to come that will be pain free.  You can give me a shout anytime you want to talk or vent...i'm always available for you.  Please rest well and get better soon.
