Thank you for doing all of this on the forum. If a person has to have a "disorder" it's kind of nice to know you're not alone. Like all of you, I am use to being extremely active and I have 6 children. I used to teach theater and ride horses and teach English and do Shakespeare plays and direct and on and on...now I am home on a heating pad, hobbling between chairs and my couch.

I will be very interested in knowing about your natural healing information. I am very afraid to take the drugs they have prescribed for me. My sister has the same diagnosis that I do and the drugs they put her on have altered her personality and her life. She is almost bi-polar, it seems, from the meds. I can't even count how many she's on!

Thanks for the full information.

Hi alison,

Probably in a matter of days, you are going to be seeing additions to the Health Pages. I'm going to be including treatments for both fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I will include VARIOUS treatment, including natural treatments. I think everyone should have ALL of the information to make an informed decision about their health. I guess what disturbs me the most about these pharmaceutical companies, is their influence over so many physicians. Physicians rely on them and their medications to treat illnesses such as fibromyalgia.... so many of the other treatments for these illnesses often get missed.

Hi alison,

We are going to have a guest physician, who has done research on fibromyalgia, CFS and other conditions. I think he will be participating early next month and will answer members' questions. I will keep everyone here posted.

Hi alison,

I'm glad you responded. I think like CFS,  fibromyalgia alone can be a disabling condition and many people don't realize that all of the symptoms of fibromyalgia are classic autoimmune disease symptoms.

The swelling in your breast and pain could be due to several things... but I definitely wanted to mention ruling out something that I knew about and especially if they told you that you had a breast infection and antibiotics failed to resolve your symptoms. In the article I read, several cancer center doctors had even missed this diagnosis with this woman ! So that's why I recommended printing the article out and making sure that you get a complete examination and consider making sure that this is ruled out.

How is your physician currently treating your fibromyalgia ?

do not be fobbed off, I was fobbed off for two years and told I had upperlimb disorder and it would get better! My saving grace was practise got a new young doctor who sent me to rhumatology to rule out other conditions and when she told me you have fybromyalgia, I was relieved because I knew something was very wrong. You know your body and if you have pain or an infection in your breast then get it checked out ask for a referral to see a specialist. I am assuming because you have fybro they hang everything on that. I now know I am vitamin D deficient and I have Hyperthyroidisim ( last week it was Hypothyroidisim) a nurse told me you are hypo and a doctor told me you are Hyper!... so remember the doctor is only human and they do not feel or see your pain so be very insistent about it. Do come back and let us know how you get on.. I hope you get it sorted.

The breast pain you are describing could be costochondritis which is an inflammation of the cartilage that joins the ribs to the chest bone.  It causes sharp chest pain inside the chest and the pain increases with any exertion including deep breathing.  It can come and go or last for a long time. The pain can radiate up the back of the neck. I have this on and off  for years even before my Fibro diagnosis.  It is a condition associated with Fibromyalgia, but I agree with PlateletGal, other serious conditions should always be ruled out first.  I didn't realize it could be associated with breast cancer, so it is good to check in to.

Warmest Regards,

P.S. ~ The symptoms are basically the same as a breast infection... but this is something that you should be aware of because, although very rare, it is often misdiagnosed.

Hi allison,

I recently read an article in my local newspaper about a woman who had a "breast infection" for years. She was misdiagnosed and later found out she had inflammatory breast cancer. It is very rare and often missed by physicians.

I don't want to scare you, but this is something I think you should definitely read, print out and discuss with your physician (better safe than sorry).
