My previous gyn said I was not in menopause yet either. I am 51, haven't had a period in 9 months and I occasionally wake up with night sweats.  I know they say you have to wait a year with no period, but I would say that I am, at the very least, close to menopause. That might be the cause for you.

Congrats to you!!!  That is great to hear that you aren't having them anymore.  I was taking hormones for hot flashes.  They stopped, but I continue to have night sweats and have been in meno for over 7 yrs. now...so I discontinued the hormones becuase they aren't working and can be dangerous as well.  I'll ask about thyroid at my next visit.

Take care of yourself.

I was going through the exactly what you just discribed.  The sleeping with the heated blanket because it helped with chronic pain etc.  I too thought the night sweats were due to possibley being pre-menopauseal... I will be 50 this week!  However, I went to my OBGYN and discussed this with her, she checked my hormone level and she told me that I was not menopauseal yet!  My FSH level was normal...   She said probabley in a couple more years, that everyone is different but most begin having symptoms around 52 or so.

Then I had a Complete Thyroidectomy 12 weeks ago....   I have never had night sweats again, it must have been my Thyroid!

Do you have Thyroid problems?

Take care;  Sonflower

I don't know what they could be either, I thought of pre-menopause as I have them almost every night as well.  I do have an electric heater that I turn on at night to keep from aching while I sleep as I wake up in the middle of the night in pain.  I believed that it is contributed to both (pre-menopause and the electric heater).  I surely know exactly what you are talking about as I wake up soaking wet some nights.

I agree with Vanbreeze it could just be hot flashes, I called them power surges. they are very annoying but there is several otc meds you can get also black cohash works...if nothing else your doctor can but you on homone for a short time...good luck and keep us posted...

It's very possible that you are in perimenopause.  This is the period before reaching menopause and can last several years.   Now, some doctors will be quick to say "You're not old enough...", but if you google it you will be able to find out exactly what the symptoms are and that it can begin at most any time.

If you want to try a natural method, black cohash has worked for some.  Be sure to bring this symptom up to your doctor during your next visit so measure can be taken to insure it's not something else that is the cause.

Best wishes to you.
