10 year old with bunions

Hi, Is there anything that can be done to correct bunions in a child. She is only 4 feet tall and weighs about 60 lbs. My grandmother had bunions so they might be hereditary. She is wearing inserts in her shoes that are helping them from getting worse, but I wonder if there is any surgery or casting that can be used while her feet are still growing and supple?
Her big toe on one foot is already at a 45 degree angle and the other foot was around 60 but has straightened up significantly since we got her inserts. Her feet look like the feet of an 80 year old woman and she is very self conscious.
We went to one podiatrist that said there was nothing that could be done, it was hereditary. Would it be worth seeking a second opinion?

Wearing orthotics help, but I would recommend surgery to prevent damage at the big toe joint.  Casting at this point would not help.  Since she is young, she would need a procedure that would not interfere with the growth plates, but still allow adequate correction.  A closing base wedge osteotomy would work great for her...however, xrays would need to be taken to assess what type of procedure would correct the deformity adequately.  Depending on the correction, she may need to be on crutches for 1-6 weeks. Definitely get a second opinion.
