Extremely frequent heartburn

For the past couple months I've been experiencing frequent heartburn that usually happens every day. It's usually extremely painful, and can last for quite some time. I've been taking an anti heartburn medication and it seems to have helped a bit but the heartburn more often than not comes back. Is this something I should look in to? Could it be signs of something bigger?

I would recommend logging down what you are eating/drinking and what activity you are doing when this happens.  Lifestyle and eating habits might be playing big role in this.  Overweight?  Smoker and/or drinker?  Caffeine drinker?  

What medication are you taking for the heartburn?

Definitely recommend you follow this up with your physician since this has been going on for a couple of months.
