Hi, I had gastric sleeve surgery in January. Prior to my surgery I was diagnosed with GERD but it was not heartburn just burping and some coughing. It was annoying but not painful. since my surgery I've had severe burning heartburn, even when I drink water and sometimes even when I don't eat or drink! My dr prescribed Pantoprazole and it worked great for about a couple of months then slowly it got worse. I asked my dr if the dosage could be increased or if we could try another kind he suggested adding Tums. I tried that but it doesn't last very long and I'm at the daily limit in no time. Dr. Just Said to watch what I'm eating, don't lay down after eating all the regular stuff I insist I'm not doing. Heck, my appetite is almost non existent when it gets real bad, my nutritionist keeps telling me I'm not eating enough calories (never heard someone ever say that to me before...lol) but if I eat the heartburn is worse.
I'm not sure what to try anymore, dr says I'm on the best medicine, the others aren't as good. I don't know what to do,or try next. Is there any food that helps, I read something about bananas help heartburn and another article says they can cause heartburn.
Any suggestions?
