Stomach Cramps, Nausea, Gagging, Dizziness

Hello,

In 2006, I got food poisoning while traveling abroad and since then, my stomach hasn't really been the same (I got tested for h.pylori but it turned out negative).  Now and then, I would get nausea from whatever I ate or drank (I tracked them each day) and sometimes, I would get these sudden stomach contractions or spasms that lead to gagging or even dry heaving.  Lately, my stomach has been cramping a lot and I would feel a mild burn under the sternum area, followed by nausea.

I've been trying to drink a lot of water since I drink a lot of caffeine (definitely one of the culprits) but it makes me queasy and even nibbling on bread or saltine crackers would make me gag. My throat constantly feels tight and it makes me feel like I am going to vomit any second. Sometimes, it gets so bad that I can't walk anymore and need to sit down until the feeling passes a little. It is awful.

My doctor prescribed me Nexium 40mg each day and it helped with the stomach acid (the burning, the liquid in the throat feeling) but it did not help with the stomach spasms, the cramping, and the gagging. I'm not sure whether this is brought on by the medication but I've been feeling lightheaded and on occasions, feel like I'm really going to pass out.

I am hoping to get some opinions on what's causing these problems and whether I should be taking something other than Nexium.  Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for any suggestions that you may have.

Taking a probiotic should be helpful....but you need to know there are so many different types and some may not add enuff good flora while others may over do it for you...ask your Dr which one would be best for you.

I know during a flare even water can cause symptoms galore....so it may not be the food, but the fact you are in a flare.

If it seems to take longer to digest these foods you could have a motility issue....I was told to avoid red meat...chicken, pork and fish are ok for me....so do try different combos and keep a journal to better see what is ok for you since we are all so different.

Good luck.

Hi selmaS,

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post. I have been avoiding beef, pork, and chicken since I seem to get very bad indigestion from them. Everything I eat doesn't seem to settle very well in my stomach. I rarely feel hungry now but when I actually do, I try to put something in my mouth but as soon as I do that, my appetite is completely gone again. I would feel like gagging and my stomach would feel like it is cramping/spasming. Would this be a motility disorder? Are there any side effects for taking probiotics or digestive enzymes for this?

Hi may I ask, what other foods. bevs have you eliminated from your diet?

Meds can only help so far, we do need to modify our diets and lifestyle.

Using probiotics can be very helpful as well.....

Have you had any stress other then dealing with these symptoms?
