Suffering with Acid reflux, severely. Weird symptoms.

So I don't know where to begin... I guess it all started with OD'ing on some Coriciden Cough and Cold, and ever since then all this weird stuff has been happening with my stomach, and anxiety and depression. I've always pretty much had depression, but now I have anxiety with it since the OD, and I've been having panic attacks. I've just been feeling miserable. I was diagnosed with GERD, and they gave me medication, but nothing helps. No food I eat makes it worse or better. It's ALWAYS there. I can't eat, I can't sleep. My doctor's won't help... all they do is tell me to take some more medication. I'm losing tons of weight, and I feel like my body's about ready to give up on me. I don't know what else to do and where to turn. I constantly feel dehydrated and malnourished. I TRY to eat and drink, but nothing's helping, it just makes it worse. Help?

YEP, your diet has to change..Tums works for me..Lots of ice cold water...I went on a vegie diet..when you start eating again, dont eat to get full; eat to be satisfied.
Take it serious cuz acid reflux could hurt you bad.

Hi. I would recommend u to go for gastroscopy, upper GL track[Endoscopy}
Please do not take pain killers as they increase ur pain n accidity.
Due to severe pain n inflamation,u must have also got bloating.
Do not eat spicy, sour and oily food. avoid fries. Eat lite n small meals- say 4-5 meals in a day. after meals, have a walk n keep a gap pf atleast 30mins before u sleep. Do not eat haevy meals as it encourages acid reflux into the eosophagus. Even I was suffering from this. But thanks to endoscopy. If u need more help, i can guide u on d diet u shud follow n way u shud sleep.

Is it possible that the Cough medicine irritated or caused small ulcerations in the linings which may be causing the GERD to flare?

Maybe when you talk with your Dr if they think this might be part of the problem, a med called Carafate may help heal the redness/inflammation that may have developed from the cough medicine ingetstion.

Just a thought cause even taking 2 TBSP of that stuff is pretty "hot" on the way down ... wonder if it did damage to the lining of your esohpagus/stomach, etc. that needs to heal and Carafate may help the pain while Prilosec type drug heals it .. ask your doctor about this, too.

Hello -- I found Prevacid caused severe depression for me.  I changed to Nexium and no longer have that problem..  I used Lexapro and it caused severe anxiety which was miserable to contend with.  I have GERD (quite severe) and find Nexium takes care of the problem well.  Over-the-counter Prilosec is almost the same drug...but you need to be cautious with it.  Most people have to double the quantities to suges this...Good luck,  Maggie PT

Are you taking any anti-anxiety meds?  I was on Lexapro plus an anti-inflammatory for arthritis.  After about a year on both meds, I started having severe GERD and was scheduled for an endoscopy procedure when I happened to read in the LA Times about a new medical study showing that 1 in 250 people on an anti-depressant/anxiety med and also on an anti-inflammatory will get GERD.  I weaned off the Lexapro and haven't had a problem since.  You might want to check for Rx interactions.  Also, I agree with SelmaS -- seeing a gastroenterologist would be a good idea.

ur stress and anxiety can be causing ur gerd...see a dr...untreated  too long gerd can cause damage that can not be repaired.....

r u on prilosec?.....r u drinking plenty of water?......and r u having normal bowel evacuations?

If u r having a bowel issue, it can cause the same feeling of the gerd being there and make eating diff......see a gastro dr.

Good luck
