Weaning off Nexium or similar...please read

I understand that this a not a drug that has to be weaned off, but it seems logical that any unnatural chemicals entered in your body should be weened off in some way somehow. So...

I'm currently doing 1 in the morning, and then waiting an hour before I eat breakfast. I will do this for the 8-12 weeks that I have seem mentioned so frequently throughout the web.

Would it be better to:

A.) Have 1 nexium a day, then becomes 4/week, then 2/week until I'm no longer using it?

OR

B.) As I begin to feel more confident with my old eating lifestyle, switch slowly from 40mg/day to 20mg/day (and even further down the road, do A but with these 20 mg pills)?

Also, C, would it be counter productive at this point (I've been taking for 1 month exactly) to begin taking it daily and only waiting 30 min. before I eat breakfast? Would this set me backwards, or is it okay because it'll show that I'm no longer needing to wait as long to get food in my system?

P.S.- I know that none of you are probably doctors, but most of you are probably have more experience taking these meds than me, so please try to formulate an opinion for your sake and mine. Thank You very much for reading.

With dietary changes, as has been emphasized already, I did really well for quite some time.  I am going to be having my first endoscopy in a few weeks, though, because I may have something more going on than GERD.  But, really, my GERD is okay as long as I'm very careful with my diet.  Food sensitivities actually will affect GERD.  If something is going to affect my GERD, it usually affects me almost immediately, so I know not to try to eat that substance again.

Hi...in reading this I agree it is not a med that u need to ween from. I do understand u thought process, but I stopped the meds with no problem bcuz they stopped being effective. I am now on a diff med which is working quite well for me.

I am on an HII pepcid which is an RX strenght.

I am not sure about ur two choices....but continue to watch ur diet and lifestyle to aid the meds in being helpful.

Thank You FurballsMom,

Sorry to be repetitive, but, if you may:

A.) How are you now?

and

B.) If you would've weaned off of it, which of the 2 choices would've seemed more logical, A or B?

I myself stopped cold turkey.  I had started getting so nauseous every time I took a PPI medication that I had to stop taking the stuff.

I wouldn't know how to wean myself off Nexium because I stopped taking it cold turkey. And let me tell ya something, it was a nightmare!! After about a week or so after stopping, my proton pumps came back on with a vegence!! The pressure was so unbelievable that it back up into my chest and caused alot of pain. So bad that I thought I was having a heart attack. I don't regret not taking it though because, while I was on it, my body was having such a difficult time absorbing minerals and proteins.

I wish you luck!!
