felt better aft PPI but symptoms returning

Hi, I am 20 yr old male, non smoker and very occasional drinker.

Recently I was diagnosed with acid reflux that cause very mild esophagitis. My dr prescribed pantaprazole 40 mg and montilium to be taken twice a day before food.

The first 2 weeks under medications, my symptoms were totally gone, now I'm into the 3rd week and my symptoms are slowly returning. Pain in my stomach and bloatedness, the pain isn't so bad as it used to be but there is still some discomfort.

Any ideas why the pain is returning even though it got better at first? I have been monitoring my diet properly and not drinking anymore since 2 months ago

There is a form of reflux that does not always produce the typical heartburn, so that does not mean much,....it is often referred to as Silent Reflux.....LPR

AND keep in mind even if u do not have LPR, u may not have ALL the symptoms as we are all different.

What is important is if the acid is there it can be doing damage, even if u r not aware of it....so do follow all ur Drs  suggestions.

He said I have mild grade esophagitis after doing an endoscope..I do not have any symptoms of GERD besides upper abdominal pain and bloatedness..no heartburn or trouble swallowing or any of the typical GERD symptoms

HI....I do know with some damage from reflux can be healed, u do have to modify ur diet and lifestyle and take the meds Rx'd to u......

With esophagitis there are different grades of severity...so u really need to ask this of ur Dr.....as he/she will be able to tell from testing that was done.....

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum

I would suggest a food journal so u can see if there is a pattern to how u feel after eating certain things, not all of us react the same to the same foods....so something u r still eating may be contributing to how u r doing....even if it is considered "safe".....so do some testing of ur own to see if u can figure it out.

Also lifestyle issues like stress can cause u to flare with symptoms even if u are on meds....so try and relax and see if it helps.

If the symptoms continue to worsen,it could be these meds are no longer working for u, some of us the PPI's do not work, so ur Dr may want to try diff meds if this continues...keep ur Dr and us posted.
