Burning in the throat is a sign of LPRD. LPRD is when the acid doesn't stick to your chest and goes all the way up your throat, even to the back of the mouth. This can cause coughing, post nasal drip, ear aches, tongue burning, the feeling of a lump in your throat, and other symptoms.

If you've just suddenly had to come off the meds, then you might be feeling a rebound effect. Some say it doesn't happen, others differ. Consult with your doctor, but both camomile tea and DGL (licorice) tablets (available in health food stores and online) should begin to help some. Frequent gum chewing and sucking on a lossage will help also, since saliva includes bicarbonate, which is an effective natural antacid.

As for the pain in the neck/shoulder, that I can't say, but burning and tingling may be indications of a pinched or inflamed nerve, and it's not likely related to acid reflux. (Not impossible, what with inflammation and all, but not likely.) Unfortinately, the act of swallowing and coughing both involve a lot of mechanics which make this hard to pinpoint without a direct examination by a doctor.

Good luck.

gnorb: Thank u for the reply! i was at the doctors 2 weeks ago for another problem (inflammed sinuses) he listened to my chest as i was getting alot of phlegm and he said it all sounded fine.
I do suffer from acid reflux a lot and i was on omemprozole for 5 months but my symptoms were different then (Burning in throat only). I have had to suddenly come off the meds as i am now pregnant (6 weeks) only now  this new symptom has started where my upper nack area near the shoulder burns and tingles. the pain gets worse when i eat or cough a lot.

The short answer to all those is yes, it can. It can also be a number of other issues, so a trip to the doctor is recommended. In the meantime, try taking an antacid to help with any possible acid problems. Omeprazole (Prilosec OTC) would be the hammer here, but it might be too much of a good thing. Try first Gaviscon (or something with alginic acid). If that doesn't work, Try something like Pepcid Complete (H2-inhibitor + acid neutralizer). If those don't work pretty much immediately (Pepcid may take a couple of days) then move on to the omeprazole, which is a proton pump inhibitor. Even if things improve, a trip to the doc's is a good idea.
