Lump in throat but no GERD

Hello. I am new to the page. I have been having a lump in my throat feeling for a little less than 3 months now. It was initially accompanied by a heavy pressure on my chest (which is gone now). I don’t have sore throat, no difficulty swallowing or eating.

I am a 37 y/o female, 58kgs (down from 78kgs since 3 yrs ago). Non-smoker, non-drinker and I try to eat healthy. I exercise at least 1 hr each day for 5 days a week. I also take Exforge (lowest dosage) once a day to maintain a normal blood pressure. I also occassionally purge myself when I feel like I ate too much as the feeling tends to get worse when I eat a lot. It was also a way for me to lose weight. I know it is a disorder but I cannot help it. These past few weeks, I have been fighting to keep away from doing it but I am unsuccessful. I will keep trying to fight and hopefully will prevail.

There is no pain. I first went to a GP who did ECG, heart x-ray and some bloodwork. ECG and x-ray came out normal. The bloodwork showed my hemoglobin count was low (11.6). I went to my cardiologist and did echo doppler and a stress test to see if there is something wrong with my heart and they all came out normal. He did prescribe Omeprazole in case it is caused by gas and referred me to a gastroenterologist. He prescribed Pantozol 40mg day and night for 8 weeks. For the first week, it lessened the pressure on my chest but the lump on my throat feeling is still there. By the 2nd week, my left ear started to have some pressure as if there’s water inside. I also started having headaches. However, one time while at the pharmacy, I stumbled upon Enterogermina a probiotic solution. It contains 6 billion good bacteria per pack. I dilute 1 pack and drink before I eat in the morning and evening. It helped with the lump in throat feeling but it eventually comes back. Also, I start to feel like there is something shooting up to my throat like gas that wants to come out but it doesn’t and it slowly goes back down to my esophagus. By the third week, I went back to him saying that the medication is not working so he scheduled me for endoscopy. When I came back for the results of the biopsy of the sample he took, it came out negative for infection or H-pylori but I had mild gastritis. The dr just told me to continue with Enterogermina and take the Pantozol for another month. He can’t prescribe any other medication because he didn’t think there was anything to cure. I will give it another month to see if it will eventually go away with this medication duo (which I highly doubt) then perhaps I will see an ENT.

This lump in throat feeling is making me depressed and keeps me in the house. It was too uncomfortable to move or go outside. It affects my work and family life. My husband is worried about me. If anybody had a similar experience, please let me know if there were any home remedies that worked for you to relieve your symptoms. I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

Hello and welcome to MedHelp's forums.  We appreciate your question but sorry you have to ask this.  I'm glad to see that you have been working with your heath care providers and urge you to continue to do so.  They are the best source of help in this matter.
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/320245.php So, lump in the throat sensation is actually a fairly common issue people face, believe it or not.  The article I've attached is a really good source of information about this. There are a number of things that can factor into this issue. Having gerd in and of itself can be the culprit.  Working with your care providers for accurate diagnosis of various things such as that or thyroid issues or treating your eating disorder could result in this sensation going away once those things are addressed.  We also strongly urge you to work on the mental health aspect of this especially now that you are becoming depressed and housebound.  A psychiatrist could be very beneficial.  There is also, if all health issues that could be resulting in this sensation have been explored have been ruled out or dealt with, something called globus hystericus. This is something real that happens to people due to anxiety and mental health issues going on.  https://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=9023.  We can never underestimate how much our mental health can impact our physical well being.

We wish you the best of luck sorting this out and we do also have an eating disorders, gerd, depression forums as well.
