what to expect

I recently had an episode of passing blood that ended me up in the ER. After doing a CT scan they determined that I had diverticulosis. My primary care physician sent me to a GI specialist who determined to do a colonoscopy, and after hearing about my long history of reflux, an endoscopy as well.

After the procedure the doctor said everything looked good and that they rtemoved some polyps from my colon and that I had some changes in the tissue near the esophogeal sphincter and that they biopsied them. He said that he would call me as soon as he had the results.

Well, just 2 days ago I got a call and the news was not all good. It turns out one of the colon polyps was pre-cancerous and that I have changes in the mucosal tissue of the stomach, a hiatal hurnia, and a large polyp in my throat which he said is unusual for someone that is 35. He wants me to go in and have the polyp removed by another GI doc that specializes in this.

I know I did not feel any pain with the colon polyps being removed but am concerned about removing the one in my esophagus which is located mid chest. Has anyone had this done in a simalar location? If so, what should I expect as far as discomfort is concerned and diet and all those kinds of things.

Next I have to schedule another endoscopy, which will be done in the beginning of April, to have the polyp in the esophagus removed. Also I have to take prilosec twice a day and watch what I eat (cutt down on acidic items, no alcohol, no chocolate which is killing me and quit smoking). After that I am not quite sure what will happen. I guess it depends on the pathology reports

Nothing surprisingly enough. At this point the main focus is the upper GI track.

Oh I see, well it does make a difference, but for diverticulosis the seeds r an irritant. And we all do need fiber, but there r other methods of getting it espically if the natural way could cause us discomfort.

What did the dr suggest for the hemeroids?

Thanks for the advice. My doctor instructed me to not keep those things out of my diet as they are a primary source of fiber. I did forget to mention that they found I did not have diverticulosis but that it was interhnal hemerhoids that caused the bleeding.

Hi...I am not able to answer all your questions, but for the diverticulosis...I do believe u should be on a special diet...stay away from small seeds like poopyseeds on rolls ect....peanuts....it will adjitate the diverticulosis.

I will see if I can find a list of foods for u to avoid and post it to our health pages.

I also have a hiatial hernia and was told location will be the factor as to what  and when they will address it.....I have had mine over 20 yrs and nothing has been done.
And I had polys removed during a colonoscopy too. Since urs r pre cancerous I pray they found all this in time to assist ur recovery.

I am unable to answer for the polyp in the esophogus.

Please keep us updated as to ur progress and I pray someone here does have an answer for you.
