Hida Scan w/CCK done, showed 29%, should I continue with surgery Need opinons Plz!

Just recently been having pains under my right rib and in the middle of my stomach and in my back, so I went to my Doctor and she suggested that it could be my gallbladder. I ended up in the E.R on Mother's Day and they did an X-ray on me and it showed that I have a kidney stone which is on my right and showed no signs of any gallstones. Went to my doctor on Monday and explained everything that had happened and she had me go get a Hida Scan plus a CCK that following thurs. When I went they ejected me with a fluid and I immediately felt sick to my stomach and had pain in my lower back again and then it went away. Today I had an apt with my doctor to find out the results and my doctor explained that my percentage was below 35% ( Im at 29%) and that I need surgery to remove my gallbladder but can ask for a second opinion. My question is....Should I continue with this surgery to remove my gallbladder? Do I really need my gallblader? My whole thing is I really do NOT want to experience that type of pain EVER again. My whole family has had their gallbladder taken out and my sister said that it ran in the family.....So should I just have it taken out? I've never had surgery before. I don't know what to do at this point, if I leave it in will my gallbladder ever return to normal?  Need advice or opinions please -So Confused-

I noticed my typo. The 94% symptom resolution was after removal of the gallbladder.

The has been a lot of discussion about how to use the information obtained from a HIDA with CCK. When the ejection fraction is low and the symptoms are reproduced there has been as high as a 94% rate of symptom resolution. The Cleveland Clinic has published data that suggests that the reproduction of symptoms is probably by itself the best indicator of improvement after removing the gallbladder. I think it is also difficult to ignore your family history. Many of my patients come from families with very few remaining gallbladders. Kidney stones generally only cause pain when moving down the ureter. It might be worth getting an opinion from a urologist about the likelihood of pain from the kidney stone before making a final decision about the gallbladder.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

The pain you experienced could be due to the kidney stone. If gallbladder ejection fraction is below 35% is considered to be gallbladder dyskinesia. When then the gall bladder malfunctions, there is stasis of bile and other crystals and salts get deposited forming sludge. This is prone for gall stone formation and sometimes infection. So, based on symptoms therapy is planned.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
