When to remove gallbladder?

I am an 18 year old female.  Within the past 4 months I began having regular GI problems and finally made an appointment with my GI doctor. He ordered a full workup including blood work, an ultrasound, and a colonoscopy.  The radiologist pointed out that I clearly have polyps in my gallbladder, but couldn't see any gallstones.  I have my colonoscopy this Friday (10/18) to rule out any other causes of my symptoms.  Those symptoms include: severe diarrhea, nausea, cramping, abdominal bloating, pain under my right shoulder blade and through my chest, and headaches. Are these enough symptoms to justify having my gallbladder removed? If not, what treatments are there for these polyps? Thanks!

HelloDoc,

I have been experiencing the same problems since 2007, but resolved after deworming in 2011.  I'm 29 yrs old, ive been very sickly recently.  been hospitalized for vertigo last Oct 1-5, having bloating, reflux, cant sleep well at night for 5 days now, dizzy, having panic attacks, weight loss.  been to doctors and they said that im ok as well as labs.  this happened to me before in 2007 and one day after defecating, i felt a worm protruding in my anus but it came back inside.  i saw a GI doctor and he dewormed me for 3 days and my anus was so itchy at that time and i can say that my GI symptoms before got better after that and nearly back to normal and i actually got pregnant at that time to my second child.  and now symptoms have been recurring.  last  August by the way, I had an ultrasound to check on the bloating issue, and they found a 0.5-mm polyp.  Are these related to parasites again or from polyp?  what if the worms are still alive as before when i dewormed, no worm really came out.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi, any structural abnormalities of the gall bladder like stones or polyps need surgical correction. The polyps could be due to chronic gallbladder inflammation. Cholecystitis can cause the symptoms described. If other causes like gastroenteritis or liver disorders have been ruled out, then your doctor may contemplate surgery for the gallbladder. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Take care.
