27 w/frequent vomiting episodes

I'm not quite sure what is wrong.  For the past few years I will have "episodes" where I am vomiting from 12 hours up to 11 days.  Various things have brought on these episodes (stress, food poisoning, alcohol), and I have gone to the E.R. several times and am always told they cannot find anything in my blood, urine and/or other tests they ran.  When I went to the E.R. the last time, the doctor was concerned due to the fact that I was throwing up blood that he ran a CAT Scan, and again, nothing was discovered.

Last Thursday (10/2) I ate lunch and starting vomiting a few hours after that; this lasted until about 2:30 a.m. on Friday 10/3; woke up 10/3 feeling queasy; Saturday 10/4 woke up feeling fine, no queasiness, made dinner (Spaghetti w/meat and tomato sauce, broccoli and rolls) and about 45 mins. after that I started throwing up again.  I am not sure how long this episode lasted due to the fact that I fell asleep; when I woke up at 6:30 am on Sunday 10/5 I got into bed; when I woke up again at 9:30 I felt queasy, and like I was going to start vomiting again.  My stomach started severely cramping and was dry heaving.  When I drank some water I felt a little better and went back to sleep until about 3:30 pm.

I am curious as to why this keeps happening; what foods are triggers?  I had back surgery about 6 1/2 years ago and I have taken a good amount of medication due to the back pain; is it possible there is a problem with my stomach lining?  Could it be an ulcer?

If you do vomit up blood, an ulcer is almost always the cause. Is the blood bright red or dark red? As ayri stated, most pain meds like ibuprofen and asprin irritate the lining of the stomach and for most GERD sufferers that is what can initialy set off their symptoms. I noticed you said you puked after sphagetti and tomatoe sauce. Tomatoe sauce is very acid and will cause more acid, which therefor irritates your stomach (and possibly ulcer). I would suggest an endoscopy as well.

A simple test you can try is go on the gerd diet and see if that helps.

hi, medication especially aspirin have a devastating effect on the linning of the stomach and are one of the major causes of gastritis, more likely than not you will have an ulcer or two, lets hope not, first you have to go back to your gp and ask for an endoscopy, this procedure will determine exactly how much your  stomach is damaged, cheers.
