Hi. I’m a middle aged former alcoholic who’s been more or less teetotal for nearly 23 years. Recently though, I’ve noticed I’m able to drink a little, after years of not being able to tolerate alcohol even in the smallest quantities. My most recent input was about two large glasses of average strength wine, which made me feel positively drunk, because I drank it on an empty stomach. In consequence, I found my stomach was gassy; I had mild nausea, this tailed off after about a week. This isn’t the first time this has happened on an empty stomach. I have a delicate stomach anyway, and eating while stressed can trigger similar symptoms, although not as severe. I’ve been told: Best to stay teetotal, which I’ve done, as I’m not interested in recreational drinking anyway. What I am interested in, however, is finding out about very occasional social drinking. I've been suffering from either acute gastritis, or dyspepsia. I’ve been told gastritis is potentially dangerous, in the case of internal bleeding, or ulceration. What I’m wondering is: Can very occasional social drinking trigger internal bleeding; or ulceration? The obvious answer is: yes (anything can happen, obviously!). My question though regards the likelihood of it doing so. I look forward to hearing from you about this.
