Anal seeping problem, recurring

I'm a 16 year old straight male, I've never engaged in sexual activity of any kind, heterosexual or otherwise. I am having a problem surface again after about 4-5 months in that I have mucus seeping from my anus. The first time I experienced it was after a strep throat infection, the mucus ranged from clear to brownish and had an oily consistency. It was also intensely itchy, and constant wiping probably exacerbated the problem. My stools were also often frequently covered in mucus and sometimes had some fresh red blood on them. My doctor checked the area and noted a sore and hemorrhoids, he have me an ointment and hemorrhoid suppositories, after which the problem subsided within a week. I thought that that was the end of the problem.

Only now, after being symptom free for about 4-5 months this has come back, seemingly without provocation, I noted passing a slightly firmer than usual stool as being the only deviation form my norm. It is now itchy intermittently, and the mucus seeping has come back. I'm worried about this because it has recurred and am very concerned that it will develop into a chronic problem, I'd like to know what could cause this other than hemorrhoids and whether it is cause to be concerned?

Thanks a great deal in advance.

I see, I am seeing either my family doctor or at least a walk in clinic physician tomorrow so hopefully this will get cleared up. Thank you  for all your input and giving me some direction as to what to ask about.

Mucus isn't really oily, although it does look kind of slippery. The mucus is a product  of a mixture of water and a compound of mucin - so it's water soluble and that wouldn't actually do a lot of floating. But if you're having any type of discharge that is truly oily and floats and if you see an orangy color you should suspect fat malabsorption. It's something you need to discuss with your doctor as it could be related.

There is still an oily discharge, it is the mucus(I believe it is indeed mucus) which has a greasy/oily consistency. I do remember having an intermittent issue where my stools would be liquid, float and had a light yellow to orange color and be very oily, this has happened several times throughout my life and always cleared up on its own within a week. Sometimes more than once a year, however I haven't experienced this in about 3 years. Could this be related?

Triple, you mentioned an oily discharge. Is that still happening? If so, you may want to consider asking your doc to check you for fat malabsorption which can happen in certain instances such as pancratic problems or celiac disease among other things. Oily discharge can carry 'mucus' and fecal material with it and can impact the tissues around the anus.

But you also need to recheck for hemorrhoids. They can and do happen again and again.
