Blastocystis SPP treatment in the UK

Hi guys

I have Blastocystis SPP, with plenty of gastric symptoms, and two courses of metronidazole have not been successful.

I am aware that the Burghwood clinic will treat this condition, but is anyone aware of an alternative? The earliest appointment is weeks away.

As far as I can establish the treatment was simply unsuccessful. My reading suggests that blasto was showing signs of resistance to metronidazole 30 years ago. Also that it's a difficult parasite to get rid of.

So they have tried to treat twice and it comes back or treatment completely failed?

Hi. I don't know of an alternative place to go but would say if you are diagnosed with this, why can they not treat it with the appropriate antibiotics? That's just a prescription they can call in for you! Whomever diagnosed it should have done that!

I have had two courses of metronidazole and they haven’t got rid of the problem.

There appear to be few practitioners that acknowledge blasto as a pathogen and have the knowledge to treat it. I have had any number or doctors dismiss it as IBS.
