Blood/mucous in toilet/stool, hardly any pain- what is it??

First time posting.... I am a 29 year old Female. Over the last 5 months now, I have had blood in my stool and in the toilet with every bowel movement. There have also been occasions of mucous as well. The blood has gotten worse in the last couple of weeks. I have been very good about fiber- fruits, veggies, psyllium husk and I even tried a 3-day liquid diet to give my digestive tract a rest- all to no avail. The weird thing is- there is rarely any pain associated it and when there is, it's mild. I finally saw a doctor yesterday and he said my blood work looked fine and he scheduled me for a colonoscopy. What I'm wondering is: does anyone know what this could be? A rectal exam should have ruled out hemorrhoids- I don't believe diverticulitis would bleed this long and it would have caused more pain, right? Any insight/suggestions would be great and I promise to follow up and let you all know what happens (a lot of folks on here don't and it's frustrating because I want to know how they're doing!) Thanks!

everyone in America has these sort of problems. its the kind of food they give us that makes us sick. Go to any 3rd world (so called) nation and your diet will be so amazing all your problems will go away. The moment I leave california and go some place else, I swear all my medical conditions dissopear and I realize one thing, its not me, its their hard water, their tasteless deplited of all nutrients food, its their poisoned air and it is their lifestyle. Like robots which humans are not they want you to suffer at work in school and the list goes on...

Hi, I have had diarreha for almost 2 weeks, and dizzyness. Dr. says dizzy is probably Vertigo which i did have last year. I took a stool sample in today.  My stomach is very sore....like I worked out really hard.  They told me last week, after a cat scan, that I had ALOT of stool in me.....now since my stomach is sore and flat....I hope I passed it all.  I have had 2 bowel obstructions during the summer. Does anyone think I did pass it all since I am sore? and my stool today was soft, but not so much diarreha. I am so afraid of another obstruction. Please someone comment, if you know ANYTHING.  THX.

Hi I am a 37 y/o female that has been having bloody mucousy stool for 1 day and extreme dizziness for about 3 days. I have a history of Mineier's Disease which is an inner ear problem that results in extreme dizziness so I just thought it was that, but yesterday I had terrible, terrible abdominal pains (which I thought was gas), then this morning my stool was bloody and mucousy and I went 3 times just in the morning.....maybe its a parasite, I have excellent eating habits with fruits and veggies, I recently lost 15lbs but over the course of 8 months with exercise and watching what I eat....I dont think it is diverticulitis....what should I do? Maybe wait a day or 2 since it just started pretty much today...

hi i had the same problem with bleeding and mucus coming out while having a bm. I had a colonoscopy yesterday and the doctors took tissue from to areas that were inflamed and statred me on medication they said that it takes up to two weeks to get resultsfrom the biospy but it could be alot of different things. But was glad i came in because it would have only became worst. I would advise you to get in to the doctor asap because the longer you wait the more damage can be done and can even be fatal. Good luck and please go asap

My daughter is a Rn she is in the hospital now as I speak.  She had blood (alot) in s stools and vomiting, nausea.  She has a bacterial infection where she came in contact with some patient at the hospital that had it.  Spelling may be off her  but------it is sudamembrane colitis.  Some actually die from it.  She is in awful shape.  She thought she had the flu antil she saw the blood and awful pain in  abdomen.  She is on 3 atibiotics and pain meds.   Her face is green , her nail   beds white as can be and I  stayed with her the last 24 hrs and my mom took my place.  She puked 12 times lastnight.  When they did colonsostopy he colon was  black not pink.  Dont put this off.

No, I haven't lost any weight or had fever or anything.  Last Sunday I had an entire day of vomiting and upset stomach but by Monday was fine.  Just kind of figured that to be some sort of stomach virus but of course I will tell the doctor that too.  I will let you know what I find out after seeing him this week.

Wow, the dizziness doesn't sound good. I do have some nausea associated with my condition, but that has started in the last couple months as the bleeding had gotten worse. But, I don't tend to be dizzy. I just heard from my gyno that pregnancy can "speed up" the symptoms of a, perhaps dormant, case of IBD (Irritable Bowel Disease- Colitis, Crohns, Proctitis, etc.) There is also the possibility of parasites. Have you lost weight? Have you had a fever or sore throat or other signs of infection? I am pretty sure that the doctor you are going to see is going to suggest a colonoscopy or a sigmoidoscopy. Good luck, and let me (us) know how it goes.

Hi!  I am a 25 year old female and currently have the same symptoms.  Mine have been going on for about two months.  What my question is ... I have also been experiencing these spells of dizziness and nausea and have twice passed out.  I have had several tests done such as EEG and MRI trying to figure out what that is all about with no diagnosis as of now.  I am seeing the doctor next week about the blood and mucus and all during bowel movements but was just wondering if anyone thought the dizzy stuff could be connected to the bowel stuff.  Oh, and just so you know I have been dealing with these dizzy spells for three and a half years now ... they started after having my second baby and at that time I had the bloody bowel movements going on too but just assumed it was hemorrhoids from child birth and never did anything about it since it just stopped on it's own after about a week or so.

Sounds very similar to me- only I let mine go on for nearly 5 months before I sought treatment. With me, it turned out to be Ulcerative Proctitis. It is treatable, but it may come back from time to time. It's generally more or less painless. If it is Ulcerative Proctitis, the blood will be between bright and medium in color and it may not just be blood but also some clots. I got a colonoscopy, however, this condition can be diagnosed with a simple sigmoidoscopy.

I am suffering from the same symptoms. I am a 19 year old male, and for the past 2 days when I poop there is blood in the toilet and a surprising amount on the toilet paper. There is zero pain and no more discomfort than a usual bowel movement.

Ok- I got the colonoscopy yesterday. Turns out, it wasn't diverticulosis at all. The doctor said I have proctitis (inflamation of the rectum). At this point, he hasn't completely ruled out cancer but says it's unlikely. He is guessing it's either some sort of IBD (rectal colitis, Crohn's, or the like) or brought on by a parasitic infection. I'm doing some stool tests next week to confirm or rule out parasites and I'll get the results of the biopsy then as well.

I had some abdominal pain a few years ago that lead me to have a colonoscopy at that point. Oddly, the gastro found a few diverticula (I was only 25 at the time) which I assumed were causing the problems now. But, this gastro during this colonoscopy found no diverticula! Either the first guy was mistaken, or this guy didn't look hard enough. Weird!

Hi - I think it is entirely logical to undergo a colonoscopy for your rectal bleeding.  Normally divertular bleeding occurs at age 40+ but I guess there are exceptions.  I underwent torrential diverticular bleeding some years ago and this was painless so don't entirely rule this out although it is unlikely.  A colonoscopy is probably the most comprehensive test to get at the truth.

If you type in rectal bleeding to google/yahoo etc there will be plenty of websites that describe symptoms/causes/cures etc etc.

Good luck
