Can you help me to wean off of omeprazole?

I am a 66-year-old woman with hypothyroidism And several auto immune diseases. So I’ve had a fair amount of blood work done in the process finding out of a rather severe vitamin D deficiency, B 12 deficiency, iron as well is deficient etc. The reason I start out in the Gastro area is because I’ve been on omeprazole for about seven years. Every time I try and cut back, using Tumms as well as OTC anti acid It’s not working.  I’m having  horrendous heartburn. And then I just give up and take my omeprazole so at least I can get comfortable. I’ve been trying this off and on for six months I don’t feel like I’m getting anywhere. I wouldn’t of even known about this had I not found out I was so deficient in vitamins. And then I started reaching the long-term effects of these PPIs realizing of course that while it may help one thing it may hurt another. Unfortunately this is one area that he is really making me sick heck I could put up with it making my hair fall out at least I could wear a wig but I don’t know how to replace these vitamins and enzymes that I’m so lacking unless I start building up stomach acid. That is my two or three layers of my problem. I hope to hear from somebody knowledgeable really soon because I am so miserable thank you

Hi, I missed your question!  Did you talk to your doctor about it since you posted this? So, I really did solve heart burn by actually losing a few pounds. Not a lot of weight was required for this to get better.  5 to 10 pounds.  And then I was able to look at how i was eating.  I get heartburn most horribly at night.  I stopped eating at night.  I cut down on all fatty foods and watch my acid like spaghetti sauce.  It did make a huge difference to me.  I went from requiring medicine nightly to taking it like a couple of times a year max.  OTC products like pepcid (what I like) or Tagamet (what my son likes) are not dangerous to use for a while to get you over the hump.

Let me know what is going on now and we'll talk more.
