Death of Cirrhosis

Hoo
I want to know what is involved in the death of cirrhosis.  I've heard horror stories about the pain & bleeding to death.  I do have cirhossis. I need to know what I am looking at no matter how bad it is.

Thank you

Hoo

I read that it largeley depends on the cause and type of cirrhosis...

It is due to 19 years of alcoholism.  Vodka.  My anorexia also contributed to it.  I have not gone thru the tests as far as how bad it is.  My guess is it's dangling by a thread.  If I don't stop drinking I will be dead in less than 6 months.  It's very serious!

Thanks,

Hoo

oh, i'm very sorry to hear that.  I know very little about it, I am no doctor, But I do know my dad had a guy who worked for him who was diagnosed with cirrhosis because he drank very heavily and did drugs and things for over 20 years.  He quit drinking on the spot and he is still working, that was atleast 10 years ago.  My dad said he eats very little and sometimes he misses work for a few days at a time, but not often.  I hear that you can die from sepsis, go into a coma or just have liver failure, i'm not too sure about what it's actually like though.  I just wanted to share that little story with you

I have no idea how bad his was either though, he may have caught it just in time, but I don't know.  If you really want to read about how it's like you can go here, I found one story about it.

I would think this is worst case scenario though.

are you eligible for a transplant if you dont drink for a certain amount of time?

Although you can't get rid of the scar tissue that is cirrhosis, I've heard that you can still generate new liver cells between this scar tissue.  If your cirrhosis hasn't progressed to far, I think it's possible that your liver can still last a long time if you completely abstain from alcohol and stay on a liver friendly diet - also be very careful of medications and pain killers.
How did you get the diagnosis? Biopcy or Imaging? (CT scan, sonogram, etc)?  It's worth finding out how far it has progressed, because you can decide on a good course of action
