Diffuse GI motility disorder

Hi, Could you please help?
My friend is bearing pain on the right side of the abdomen for past 1.5 yrs.He has undergone a CT
scan, sonography and endoscopy tests. Findings didnt show any abnormality as tumor. He doesnt have any
appendicitis problem.
Yesterday he had a shooting pain with burning sensation on the right side of the abdomen.
We went to a gastro specialist and he was diagnosed for diffuse GI motility disorder. The medicines prescribed
are Colospa Retard & Nausidome.I checked on the internet ,they said that GI motility disorder is caused either
from a problem in muscle, or nerve or hormone controlling the muscle.
I wanted information whether the treatment told by our physician regarding the intake of Colospa Retard &
Nausidome tablets is correct or not. Also are there any specific tests we need to conduct to find out the root
cause of this motility disorder like any tests which give us the hormone levels ,  any test which tells us
which  nerves is affected or muscle is affected. Also can you tell how will this disorder be controlled or
removed permanently.
The patient is already suffering and is in pain now.By diet the patient is a vegetarian, can you also suggest
some diet for him. Due to this disorder , patient is sufferring from piles , bloating, gas , constipation  &
severe pain in right side of abdomen. This pain is continous but shooting pain is only sometimes. There is always
discomfort in his right side of abdomen.
Awaiting your reply.

I have digits, have an ileostomy, had most of large bowel removed almost 23 years ago! 23 years ago they didn't know what was wrong with me, just that my bowel wasn't working. I lived with either constipation or diarrhea till 6 years ago, when they did the ileostomy!  Also told me i had crohns. 6 months later had gallbladder removed. Became severally depressed for almost 4 years! In the last year and a half i have had 13 bladder infections,
no burning or itchiness. Blood and white cells show up. I am dealing with a prolapse, and never ending bladder issues! I am on meds for depression, pain, and antibiotics when needed. I am at my end of the rope shall we say! Why do i have blood/white cells in urine? Because the digits, goes into the bladder. What is next? Another bag for my bladder? Please tell me something i don't know! Any advice is welcomed. Thank-you for listening. Martini

Hi Monica,

I'm a 17 year old female and have been going through what seems like the same symptoms. I have had my appendix removed (which didn't help the problem). I have had 4 ultrasounds, x-rays, a Barium Enima, a colonoscopy, a surgery, and spent weeks in the hospital. All of which gave typical results and they could find nothing wrong.

I recently attended a speech at a university hospital and heard a doctor speak about a disease that he has named D.I.G.I.T.S. Aka Diffuse Irritable Gastro Intestinal Tract Syndrome.

The list of symptoms he gives include:
Infrequent bowel movements
Constipation alternating with Diarrhea
Can progress to include symptoms in the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, urinary bladder.
DIGITS can affect the esophagus by causing chest pain and difficulty swallowing.
The stomach is impacted by symptoms that include nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, and early fullness after meals.
The small bowel disease causes vomiting, pain, and extremes of output (Diarrhea/Constipation) especially in the instances when a colostomy is present
The Colon symptoms are severe cramps, constipation, and diarrhea
The bladder symptoms that include frequency, urgency, and retention.

I hope this helps.
Let me know if you want more information!

There is a.."ask a doctor" forum here. They should be able to reply. Also if the medicine the doctor gave your friend is helping, i am sure that the diagnosis was correct. You can always get another doctors opinion as well. Unless the pain continues i see no reason to seek further testing.

best 2 you
