Do certain foods cause black diarrhea?

My 20 yr. old daughter had black diarrhea today. She has a very sensitive digestive system and felt real sick from some Mexican food she had last night. She also vomited twice this morning. (Has a history of problems with things like salad dressings, sauces and most Mexican food. Still indulges in it unfortunately. Her father and grandmother also have lots of digestive problems. (This probably has no relevance but she's rather petite.) My question is: What causes black diarrhea?

She's a fairly healthy girl overall, but has also had some other unrelated health problems in the past 6-8 mos. Saw a GP for dizzy spells, and blacking out and she's also suffered from migraines, with dizziness and strong nausea. The doctor attributed the dizzy spells to going long stretches without eating during classes.

Hi - the medical name for black motions (assuming the cause is digested blood) is melena.

You might want to look it up on google/yahoo so that you are more knowledgeable when your daughter seeks medical advice.

Black stool usually means there is bleeding in the stomach or small intestine.  This loss of blood would explain her dizzy spells, and nausea, as she is probably anemic.  I would make sure she gets an appt. with a GI doctor ASAP!
