Dumping Syndrome

Hi!  My GI physician insists that patients cannot get Dumping Syndrome post-cholecystectomy.  How do I educate him so that he can treat other patients appropriately?  I myself have had Dumping Syndrome for three years after my gall-bladder was removed.  I also have pancreatic divisum.  Can this also cause dumping syndrome?  Thanks for any helpful information.

Hi -

I had gall bladder removed 12/30 via Lap (?) process and now at times I feel a stinging sensation, random pricks in the belly, abs, lower back as well for days?

Trying to see what else is going on. Could I be dumping?

Thank you for answering.  Yes, I mean the rapid gastric filling of the jejunum with undigested food that happens during a meal or right after, causing symptoms of nausea, weakness, sweating, cramping, bloating, flushing, dizziness, and heart palpitations.  It esp. happens with carbohydrates which triggers the pancreas to release excessive amts. of insulin into the bloodstream, thus the presence of the above symptoms.  It is very uncomfortable.  One doctor told me that you could not get this syndrome unless you had a gastric bypass.  But I have met a few post-cholecystectomy patients that have had this. By the way, you sound like someone in the medical field. Thanks!

By dumping syndrome, are you referring to the rapid emptying of the contents of the stomach into the small intestine? That's what doc's typically 'hear' when someone says dumping. But many with GB removal mean that they're dumping bile, and a doc might not see it as 'dumping.'
