You sound exactly like me. I've been having pain for 3 yrs now and had my gallbladder out in 2007. I went through every single test you can imagine and finally after these 3 yrs we came to think that it might be sphincter of oddi dysfunction. The doctor said i was also a SOD type III, too. I'm 17 and i had my ercp with the sphincterotomy and the whole nine yards in October of 2009. I also had the stent placed in to prevent pancreatitis but i got it anyway and had to stay in the hospital for a week on pretty strong pain meds. A week later they took the stent out and i felt sooo much better compared to the pain i had before the stent was taken out. Anyways, that seemed to make my right side pain kinda go away but in the middle of November it started to come back even worse than before the initial ercp. Now 4 months later I'm still in horrible pain and nausea so bad that i dry heave every day. I'm wondering if maybe the cut they made healed wrong and actually re-blocked the bile ducts?
All my pancreatic and liver tests have been normal since the initial pancreatitis went away.
The question you had about your diet, i eat a lot of low- fat foods like fruits, salads, lean meat, and that helps alot compared to if i eat anything fattening like fast food and fried foods. Also, try eating less at each meal, i found that these two things, low-fat and less food, put together, the pain is kind of bearable compared to a lot of less healthy food at each meal.
Hang in there - it might be a while before you start to feel relief, but there is also a chance that you are having the same pain as before. I would most certainly contact Dr. Lehman - he did your procedure, he needs to know how you are doing. I saw/see Dr. Sherman at IU. I haven't had an ERCP, but he was the doc that I saw there.
One note about foods - eating low fat should help, but raw veggies are one of the hardest foods for our tummies to break down, so those might be contributing to some of the problems. I had to avoid salads for a long time (which I hated!!!!) but it seemed to help. Cooked veggies were OK for me.
Good luck - I really hope you have some relief soon.
