Excretion of Blood

Hi,
Why do men excrete blood? Because since 2 days my husband is excreting blood, and today it was a lot. What
can it be, is it something serious?

I think your husband should go to hospital quickly.  I suffered torrential diverticular bleeding five years ago and the volume of blood lost was life threatening.  Although a single loss of 100-200 mls is probably not too harmful, one must consider the continuous effect of losses of this magnitude as well as the risk that the next loss might be of the order of 500 mls++.

A large percent of the population above age ~60 have diverticular disease without symptoms but in a small majority of cases, severe bleeding occurs.  So your husband is in the statistical average for diverticular disease etc.

Thank you, actually the second time it was a lot like more than 100 mls and my husband's age is around 65.

Both women and men can excrete blood (presumably you are referring to rectal bleeding??). Rectal bleeding is never normal.  Look up "rectal bleeding" on google/yahoo etc to ascertain causes/treatment etc etc.

Depending on age the chance of the more sinister diseases increases at age ~40+.

You must persuade your husband to seek prompt medical advice.  Unless the cause can be identified as one of the minor ones (haemorrhoids, anal fissure etc) I suggest that your husband insists on a colonoscopy.

If the loss of blood at any one time is 100 mls + then I suggest that you go immediately to a hospital.
