Poo Bear

Hi All

For the last few years I have been experiencing nausea, wierd dizzy feelings like hot water being poured over my head followed by cramps in the tummy, diarrhoea, cold chills, irratibility, inability to sleep, sometimes followed by vomiting then fainting.  These episodes always happen at night after dinner around about 9.00 - 10.00 when I am sitting at home watching T.V.  I have suffered from IBS since I was thirteen, and was diagnosed with stomach ulcers some years ago.  Sounds like stress related things to me

I have two children and own a business.  I take Stemetil for the nausea followed by 5 - 10mg temazepan.  If I can get to sleep then I wake up fine the next day. But don't want to keep taking benzos.  Doctors are stumped.  Have an appointment with Gastroenterologist on Tuesday followed by Psychiatrist in November.  i am wondering if anyone else has ever had these problems.  It was happening once a month then once a week, now every second day.

You could have neurocardiogenic syncope(NCS). I have some of your same symptoms.  For people with with this there is a miscommunication between your heart and your head.  For many people with this they have symptoms while standing for long periods however for me my is after I eat and here is why.  The blood goes to my stomach and intestines to digest my food my brain then sends a message to constrict my blood vessels and push more blood up to my head however for people with NCS our bodies dilate the vessels and the blood does not get to the head so we may feel faint or even pass out.  A tilt table test can determine if you have this.  After I tested positive for NCS the doctor told me to drink 2 Liters a day and eat more salt.  This is something you may want to check out.

A hida scan is a test that measures how well your gallbladderis functioning.  You lay on a table completely still for about an hour after a radioactive tracer is injected.  Your gallbladder then shows up on the screen.  Then they inject cck which is an enzyme that is like eating a fatty meal.  Then it measures how well your gallbladder is contracting.  It may reproduce the same symptoms you are having.  If it is below 35% then they recommend gallbladder removal.  It sometimes helps to relieve the pain but not in all cases.  It is a decision you want to research before having it out.

You have a number of symptoms so it could be a lot of things.  They should do a colonoscopy and endoscopy, celiac allergy testing stool testing and other things also to help you find the cause of your troubles.

Hi there many thanks for your post.  I have thought about getting my gall bladder checked, I just didn't think that was the case as I don't really get stomach pain, just cramps in the lower bowel area.  What is a hida scan I haven't heard of that.

Kind Regards

If you get nausea after eating then it may be related to the gallbladder .  You can get a hida scan to check the function and an ultrasound to check for stones.  Your GI can order these tests.
