Post Gallblader Removal Gallstones

Four days ago I went to the emergency room due to severe pain in my stomach. My gallblader has been removed for 2 years. After the Endoscopy/Ultra Sound, I was told that there is sluge at the Y passage where my gallblader existed. This can be removed by another Endoscopic Procedure. Ever since my gallblader remova., I have not felt totally comfortable with my digestive system, my bowel movements. I constantly get gas and bloating. Can someone advise me what exactly this diagnosis means. Do I need the procedure. Do the gallstones still exist after the gallblader removal.

Sludge is not really considered 'stones.' Think of it like a 'heavy substance' that contains tiny, tiny tiny, particles that could unfortunately cause problems all by itself. It is possible, however, for the sludge to further concentrate to build stones over time.

Yes, you do need the ERCP procedure to get rid of the sludge. Sludge can be 'lost' to the bile duct during surgery. In addition, people can and do form new sludge/stones after GB removal. You may want to talk to your doc about diminishing your probability of forming new stones/sludge in the future with diet/medication.
