Hello! About six months ago I would wake up multiple times a week in the middle of the night with sulfur burps and within thirty minutes I would start vomiting and had diarrhea until everything was out of my system. Went to multiple doctors and found out it was a combo of IBS and anxiety. So now I avoid foods that bother my stomach as well as avoid more than a drink or two when it comes to alcohol. I also started to exercise and that was really what helped me. I was able to have more control. If I went on a run I wouldn't get sick the following night. I read many of these group forums and never saw one response that attributed their symptoms to anxiety. I wish you all the best of luck figuring out what is wrong. If you are reading this while currently on the bathroom floor (as I was ofterntimes reading these forums to find help) I hope you feel better soon. Try exercising or some form of meditation! It can't hurt.
Hi everyone, I dealt with this for years, here is my experience:
These symptoms are consistent with a severe case of acid indigestion. Once you start getting the burps, take an antacid as soon as you can. Not an 'acid reducer' like Zantac, because those don't work immediately. Take the strongest recommended dose for your age of Tums or Rolaids. For me, this has shortened my bouts of illness from 2 days of vomiting/dehydration to 1/2 day of discomfort and loose bowel movements.
Second, talk to a doctor if that doesn't help, but even if it does. There are underlying conditions (bacteria, parasites, liver disorder, acid reflux, anxiety disorders, poor diet) that can cause you to be more suceptible to these attacks. Your doctor will help you rule out the most serious problems.
Ok, Ive had this for years. 1st of all when u get the bad burps, nothing, i mean nothing u take will stop them. Its terrible. I feel ur pain. I usually get it once a year however, ive had it 3 times this month. I have been researching this and today I went to the dr for blood tests. I asked to be tested for h- plyhori. I will have the test back soon. Hopefully I get the answers I need. If I find out anything Ill let u know.
I’m literally struggling with this right now, I’ve had episodes a few times a year for the past 8 years. It gets worse as I get older and because I’m scared of the rotten egg smell and the vomiting i try to hold in my burps which makes it worse. I’ve just tried Pepto Bismol hoping it will make it better so fingers crossed!

Try "Natures way" probiotic 30 billion triple strength, one in the morning and one at night, ease up on eating solids for two weeks, after 3 days add Milk Thistle 35000 plus taurine (Blooms make it) and after two weeks continue to take both tablets once a day, for at least a month, It cured me. I had it every three to six days for years.
I am 26 I have only had 2 episodes of this. My trigger seems to be dominos pizza. It is horrible. I am currently on hour 12 of it for my second episode. Have tried baking soda and water no help. I just want it to go away.
TRY PEPTO BISMOL as soon as the burps begin!
I was experiencing this for about 3 yrs in high school after eating eggs, deep fried foods, or foods very high in fat. Even after eating extremely sugary foods. Everytime it happened to me I took a pesto bismol and it made me burp more, but the smell was less and less everytime and eventually I would feel 100% better (after about 30 minutes). I found this solution online one day and the article stated that it was from a protein in the stomach (H. pilori possibly?).
No idea what really causes it, but it's basically food poisoning. From what I gathered through my own experience and research, the body starts having issues with digestion and the food in the stomach starts to ferment and rot. The longer you ignore the burps, the further the bad food gets tgrough your system and the more damage will be done. As soon as you know its going to hit you, get that food out of your stomach asap. I've tried apple cider vinegar which works sometimes, but you HAVE to catch it early. Also, when I keep up on my pancreatin suppliment, I do not run into this issue, so I would recomend trying to take this regularly see if it helps. Good luck all!
Thank you for posting. My husband has been suffering from this very same thing for so many years now. I never would have imagined that so many others have been experiencing the same. I wish i had some advice but as it is we too are looking for any advice that could possibly help.
I am suffering from the same miserable thing. Rotten egg burps and then vommiting for hours. I start to sweat and then get cold sweats. Now it's happening more frequent, at least once a week. It drains me so badly that I end up in bed for a day and can't move with a bucket next to me invade I can't make it to the toilet in time. I've tried everything and nothing seems to stop this from happening. The doctors have no answers for me. If anyone has any remedies that actually work please help!! This is really putting a toll on me.
I have this problem once or twice a year .The only thing that seem to get rid of it is hard-core nausea pills from the doctors. It usually gets rid of the taste of egg in my mouth and stop stomach pain I would suggest trying it.
I get the rotten egg burps & some diarrhea but no pain except an ulcer pain. I usually keep it under control with fiber tablets every day & only one soft drink a day. Peppermint candies help settle my stomach but the diarrhea is usually not enough fiber in diet. Ground beef seems to be a big trigger for me as it's too fatty & no fiber. I had a major flare last week & have been taking Nexum for 1st 3 days then Zantac daily. fiber tabs had helped so much that this is 1st flare I've had in over a year as it's hard to eat enough fiber every day. Peanuts or mixed nuts help with the fiber too. Hope this helps ya'll!
Im 13 and a half and I have the exact same thing, it's horrible. I get so scared when the burps start to come on and I get all cranked up and when I start throwing up the smell triggers it more and I throw up until bile starts coming out and it doesnt stop. I fell asleep at my sink aswell. It's horrible and I want to to stop!!
Oh also, I had a friend who dealt with something similar and found that a combination of oregano and tea tree oils solved the problem for good. I haven't tried this, but it might be something to look into.
I dont know if this will work for anyone else, but as soon as I feel the symptoms coming on, I eat plain raw garlic. It usually stops it. For me the trigger is too much sugar.
I have to say im truly surprised at the amount of people who suffer from this, as anyone ive asked doesnt know or never heard of it, and im a nurse and work with many medical professionals. Ive been calling it sour stomach.Since i was about 9 ive had this happen, its not very frequent so ive never seen a dr. Im 33 now and has become more frequent like once every 4 months or so. Always happens like 12-18 hours after eating somethung bad usually an egg. Egg from nursing home work or this time from eggs i made into garbage a few days old. As soon as i tasted it i started eating tums, last night. This am i woke up with watery bm then i burped and immediately threw up, but my burps are getting better which it usually lasts 24-36 hours so i think maybe i knipped it in the bud this time. I will take maalox and antacids. Sorry i have no answer but im glad im not alone. And have seen some pretty good answers in this thread previously. So thanks everyone for sharing
I too have had these same issues since I was 19, now nearing 27. The first time it happened I was actually pregnant and miscarried a couple days later. I would get the rotten egg burps and farts followed by water poops. Then I feel bloated and like I need to poop but can't. That follows with extreme upper stomach pain that goes into my back like a hot knife. I then begin puking rotten eggs. The whole thing last about 18 miserable hours. There is no rhyme or reason. It use to be once a year, then two times a year. I got my gallbladder removed (unrelated) Nov of '16 and have had it 9 times since. Twice in the last two weeks. It's just becoming more frequent and doctors can't tell me what's wrong. I hate this. I recently lost my job because I had to leave work again. I'm young and I shouldn't have to deal with this for the rest of my life. :(
Hello Forum,
I also suffered from this issue often and have performed my own extensive research to try and self-diagnose and treat this horrible condition.
I have a theory:
Some contaminant (I believe it is Ibuprofen for me; might be different for you) is producing an auto-immune response in the stomach which causes the Pyloric Valve to stay closed, trapping all the food in your stomach.
The food is then unable to move out of the stomach and starts to rot which causes the Sulfur gasses/burps; the stomach eventually becomes noxious which produces toxins that eventually cause the diarrhea and in some cases, vomiting.
Potential Remedy:
I stopped taking Ibuprofen and have not had an episode since. I truly believe that for me; the Pyloric Valve is rendered temporarily inoperable by the use of Ibuprofen.
I also started taking one Pro-Biotic and one Fiber pill each day (Pro-Biotic to aide in proper digestion and Fiber to help keep things moving regularly).
Even though I have not tried this; I found this information on another forum that could be beneficial to some:
Activated Charcoal pills could help aid in the relief of symptoms as it works by acting as a filter in the stomach; it will absorb both the toxins and the initial contaminant which allow the Pyloric Valve to resume normal functions. As soon as the valve begins functioning again the noxious burps end because the source has left the stomach.
The diarrhea will still come because by the time the burps begin to smell the contents of the stomach have already rotted and are passed through for liquidation (pun intended).
CAUTION: Activated charcoal should be used only as a remedy, not as a regimen. Prolonged use may cause malnutrition due to its absorbency robbing the body of vital nutrients from your food.
I am posting this information in hopes that it helps some of you who suffer from this crap to help get it under control.
Fxck Ibuprofen!
Ibstarc
I do this quiet often I wish I knew it was maybe once a year now it's been every weekend I can't stand it I want to know what to do I get deathly sick my stomach cramps hurts so bad I do not have a gallbladder and have to take lots of meds, I would love an answer, this IS NO life!!!
My husband has this EXACT same thing, we are constantly looking for answers. He has had CT scans, HIDA scan, scopes in both ends, and of course, everything looks normal. Since no doctor seems to know WTF this is my husband deals with the few days it lasts, taking omeprozole, zofran, apple cider vinegar, with no prevail. I have Reglan from my pregnancy so we may try that next. If someone finds out WTH this disease is please let us all know!

Im not a professional or anything so you might want to ask your doctor about this. Anyway, I hope I helped.
Hi!
I get this too, eggy/sulphur burps that used to last all day but now only last til I vomit. I was born with GERD and had an operation when I was 8 (now 24). Although foods still trigger symptoms.
From frantic research I found it could be from protein not digesting properly in your stomach. Which made sense to me as the last time I got it I'd eaten a lot of chocolate peanuts....a lot...
So I avoid eating a lot of protein. I also read yesterday that pineapple helps digest the protein so maybe try some pineapple before or after a protein heavy meal?
I just said protein so many times haha. I hope this helps you, I constantly worry about getting those burps so I know your pain. Thankfully since watching my protein intake I haven't had them :)
