Sigmoid Colon Resection

I am a 38 year old male having A Sigmoid Colon Resection done Friday. I have battled Diverticulitis off and on for about 4 years.  I have been in continuous pain since 8-21-12 and had a bunch of tests,  'oscopies, scans and x-rays.  My dr comapred recent scans to scans taken over the years for various reasons (mostly Kidney Stones or Kidney Stone "false alarms") and found an increase in the number of "pouches" from as early as 2008 until the last scan in November, 2012.  Now to get to the point...how long before I can return to normal activities? Namely work (office environment), driving, intimacy, lifting and my hobby of target shooting?

I underwent a total colectomy in 2004 and, in response to another Medhelp patient's question, I posted a summary of my own experiences on:-
