Solid feces and diarrhea in the same bowel movement

I just had a bowel movement that consisted of Solid Feces (long pieces and short no ragged edges "solid" brown) and lots of water (diarrhea I think). I've been drinking a lot of water lately in hopes of getting rid a chronic cough which I believe is caused either post-nasal drip. I was just at the gastrologist regarding pain in my left abdominal as well as changing in my bowel movement. My gastrologist examined me and could not find anything out of the ordinary and suggested Flex Seed Oil and Benefiber to regulate my bowl movement. Has this happen to anyone else? Should I be worried?

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  What probably happened was that you were a little bit constipated and then the things your doctor told you to try made you have some diarrhea, but some of the stool stayed solid.  You shouldn't be worried if this doesn't continue.  If it does continue then I would make another appointment with your doctor.

Sounds like a good assumption.  Many people are lactose intolerant.  It might be a good idea to eliminate all lactose from your diet for 2 weeks to see if that helps your problems.  Good luck.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I believe you may be correct in your assumption as it has not reoccured. It may also have been that I consumed a lot of chocolate candy Halloween weekend ... and i have been diagnosed but I believe I may have IBS or lactose intolerance and the chocolate may have triggered either.
