Sticky, thick, smelly stool

For the past 3 months I've been getting VERY sticky, thick stool. The density is like clay and it also has a very foul smell. This is not normal at all for me, as my bowel movement are usually very normal and don't really smell. I took an antibiotics a few months back that made me very sick and gave me terrible stomach problems. I believe this all started around the time I got better. I've been trying probiotics but they give me extreme, foul smelling gas. I used to take probiotics all the time without issue until now.

I went to the gastroenterologist and he didn't really have any idea and just wanted to run a bunch of very costly tests. I'm not confident in doing the tests when he can't even give me good reasons could be wrong and it will cost me so much. I had stool samples done and those all came back normal. So I wanted to see if anyone has any idea what some possible causes could be and how I could try to treat it on my own first? Or if I need to go back to the gastroenterologist and have the testing done. Thanks

What testing did he want to do? Did he tell you why he wanted to do those specific tests?

What probiotics are you taking? What antibiotic did you take?

Here's some basic info for you - https://www.healthline.com/health/sticky-poop

Have you tried tracking your diet? When you started this, did you start any other meds than the antibiotic?

There are some good reasons to do the testing, depending on what they are, but maybe you can start with diet since your stool test didn't reveal any blood or infections, etc.
