Stomach Problems

Hi

Im a 19 years old male suffering from anxiety. Last week i decided to make a trip to my local herbal store and get some herbal teas. I got the Valerian Root Tea & St. Joh's Wort Herbs which i havent used yet. But i have been drinking the Valerian Root Tea for few days now and from yesterday i started having this stomach pain. And when i go to bathroom its not normal. It feels like i have diarrhea but i dont but i feel like i need to go to bathroom. I wanted to know if these herbal teas could cause this kind of stomach discomfort. I havent been drinking anymore Valerian Root Tea today but i still have the stomach problems.

this is basically my symptoms

-  feels like i have diarrhea
-  i feel gassy
-  i usually go to bathroom once a day but today i have been to bathroom three times and a little comes out and its mostly gas (sorry for going into details :D)
-  i also have some sort of stomach pain, its gets worse after i eat
-  yesterday i had this empty stomach feeling even after i ate food. i dont have this today tho

could this be because of the Valerian Root Tea or could it be related to my anxiety?

well today i woke up and had this low grade fever and extreme fatigue and had lower back pain so i went to a walk-in clinic and after the checkup the doctor told me its probably a virus that is causing this. well right now i have a low grade fever and i kind of feel like im getting this chest pain. i guess it wasnt related to the Valerian Tea. its probably a virus as doc said.

Could be the Valerian tea is not only calming you down, but it may also be calming your digestion down, so could be that's why you're having symptoms.  It takes a little while for the tea to completely leave your body, so your problems may still be there for another day or two.  Sometimes there are herbs that come from companies that don't use top rate ingredients, and so after your digestion straightens out, you could ask the health food store people which is the very best quality of Valerian, and you could even try taking it in some other form than tea.

If I were you, I'd just go to the county mental health clinic and get hooked up with the psychologists/psychiatrists there, and they'll give you medicine, a tranquilizer might be in order for you, you can take it as-needed and short-term, which is actually the best way to take that kind of drug, since it's so powerful.  And since you'd take it in combination with talking things out with a counselor, I imagine they'll give you coping skills and new points of view, so that your anxiety will eventually lift and you won't need drugs.

I've taken some herbal stuff that made me feel very strange, I got this kind of tightened feeling in my neck, so I never took those things in that particular category again.  So, herbs can have side effects, just like regular medicine, and thus I do indeed think the tea has upset your tummy.  If your symptoms don't go away in, say, a week, then it may have been coincidental that you took the tea, while at the same time you had some kind of intestinal bacteria going on, so you'll need to see a doctor then, they can draw blood and other tests to see what you got that is making you sick.
