Untreated Proctitis?

I went to a Gastroentologist in January for a colonoscopy.  He said I had proctitis and that it was no big deal.  He gave me a precription of suppositories and sent me on my way.  I started using the suppositories, but thought I was having some weird side effects.  I called this doctor and explained to him my concerns about the side effects and he honestly laughed at me.  So... I just threw them out after trying a second time and still having the weird side effects.  I figured this inflammation would probably just resolve itself and go down on it's own anyhow...

I brought up my concerns about this with my Primary Doctor as well and she said it's no big deal.  She advised me to use some over the counter hydrocortisone cream and said I'd be fine. (I just started doing this - this week.)

It got better for awhile, but lately I've been having symptoms again and they are more serious and now I am concerned.  I've had very very foul smelling gas for a very long time (no matter what I eat) it is horrid!  Like rotten mexican eggs or something (sorry TMI).  There is mucous in my stool and sometimes a little blood.  I've noticed lately as well that it's a bit smelly down there.  (gross)  As in, it does not smell normal - something is WRONG.

I am a bit of a hypochondriac but I am trying not to freak myself out too much about this.  I'm going to keep using the hydrocortisone cream and just hoping that it resolves itself.  The reason I am posting on here is because I am starting to get worried that maybe the Gastroentologist missed the mark - and maybe I have something more serious?... an infection?  a parasite? cancer?...

Worried, and scared....  Any help or advice or anything at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Proctitis lasting more that a week or so makes me wonded about the possibility of ulcerative proctitis (a limited from of ulcerative colitis). Did the GI doc take biopsies. You need to find a GI MD that you feel comfortable with and get a second opinion.

drbohler,

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with Gonnorhea and Chlamydia of the rectum and was treat for both (a Shot for the Gonnorhea and Azirhromycin for the Chlamydia). They then gave me 7 days of doxycycline after I was still having issues.

This all started in October - out of the blue. Anyway to cut a long story short I am still having issues. The problem is coming and going. It can disappear for four/five days but then comes back. My anus feels very sore internally, I feel full all the time, slightly constipated, mucous in my stools and often blood. I'm also having moderate abdominal pain and feel sick. I've re-tested for Gonnorhea and Chlamydia and both have came back negative.
This is definitely something that has been caused by either of those two std's as I do not have any others. Do you have any idea on what I should be doing now? I went back to the STD clinic but they told me to take salt baths....? Salt baths are not helping! I need more treatment/medication as this is ruining my life.

Thanks for any advice.
