never comes out all the way?

OK so I'm a 17 year old girl and have been having problems with this for over four years now, but it seems to have gotten worse after the first couple years that I had this problem.  Now I'd say it's about the same it was a couple years ago.

I go poop a few times a day, and it feels like it all doesn't "come out".  So usually when I have to pee, I also feel like I have to poop.

For example, on the first of this month I went pee at 10:30, pooped & peed @ 11:45, at 1:45 I peed and mini-pooped.  Like- the teeny bit that hadn't come out before.  At 3:10 I peed.  At 5:30 I peed & pooped, but just a teeny bit again this time.  At 5:42 I peed again, and at 7:45 I pooped & peed.

The most annoying part is that I'll go poop a little bit, but because it won't come out all the way, I'll have to pee again in a few minutes.

When my bowel movements were normal, I would poop, and then I knew it had all come out properly when I started peeing at the end of it.

Now since the poop never seems to come out all the way properly, I don't get rid of all that pee at the end.  Sometimes before I get up I'll try and get all the pee out, but it takes a lot of effort.  I can always tell that I need to poop more before all that pee will come out.  Except I can't.

I also poop with like, 5 minutes in between poops sometimes.  Like- I'll go and it won't come out all the way.  Then 5 minutes later I realize I have to go again.  And if I don't go, it's not just holding in poop.  It's holding in pee that comes along with it.

So it's not just that it just FEELS like the poop isn't coming out all the way- it isn't.

I don't always go four times a day though.  Sometimes I only go three or two, it depends on the day.

The most annoying part is when I go, then have to go again five minutes later.  I'll go to the bathroom before I leave to go to the gym for example, then right when I get there I have to go poop again (not fun in public restrooms).

That gets really embarrasing when I'm with friends, and have to go again after 5 minutes.  Especially because they don't know I have bowel issues.

I'm going camping at this festival thing in June, and we're just gonna have these compost toilet things, and outhouses.  I've always been afraid to go camping with my "issue" but I decided I'm not gonna let it hold me back, and just go.  It'd be nice if I could get something figured out by then though, so it won't be as bad.

I've never gone to the doctor for this because when it started I was embarrased to tell my mom.  Now I'm not telling her because I feel she'd be mad I didn't tell her for four years.  I know this is stupid and I should just go.  But I really really dislike doctors.  Most the time they can't do anything to help anyway, in my experience.

Originally I just thought that my diet was bad.  But now it's pretty healthy and nothing has changed.

Any ideas what this could be?!  Or how I could make it not as bad?!

I have the and thing!! It's maddening! Now as I am older and have more problems, I also have IBS and so I sit for hours trying to push our poop that's like soft serve ice cream.  It's awful because I can't really feel it,  it's soft! So I wipe and I wipe.  Usually it ends up making my butt bleed even though I'm not pushing in it hard.

I think if you are in a pinch, it's helpful to use a small enema.  Just a little water and it helps that come right out.  It's awful for soft poop but the normal it hard pooh really isn't that bad! It really cleans you up and gets that stupid pooh handy in to leave! I hope this helps you!

Hi..i have the exact problem and i'm 71yrs male.. I've had this problem for many, many years.  First of all, it's important to have a colonoscopy ;  2nd,  keeping active , eating fiber  foods and remaining hydrated is all important.  I thought it was my enlarged prostate pressing against the rectal wall which was hindering my bowel movements but it's not.  Admittedly, losing belly fat could help so much but that's very difficult to overcome the older one gets.  I'm just resigned to it ..nothing physically wrong with me other wise.  I will try Metamucil and the Apple Cider Vinegar /Bran route..also prune juice is helpful.  Yes, Holistic /Integrative Medicine may help, although i haven't tried that route. My  Gastroenterologist  and Urologist did recommend Milk of Magnesia or Metamucil..  Don't be embarrassed about all this.  I'm comforted knowing that i'm not the only one with this problem.  For me, it started in my late 50's so i've been using my finger  a good long time   Stay safe and be well.

Just put a small stool, box (a stable one, of course) or something underneath your feet when you poop, so you're sitting in a squat-like position. Feels weird and uncomfortable at first but at least the poops now gone. I donno, but it helped me.

Please listen to gnorb, and to me.

I am going to tell you something, and it is not intend to scare you, but, if fecal matter remains in the colon too long, besides the risk of colon cancer, it can deaden nerve sensitivity, I know, because it is what has happened to me. I have other health issues that caused my bowel to stop functioning altogether.

Sweetheart, I am 55 years young, and my generation is even more inhibited about discussing these types of things with their doctors, but it is the only way to make sure there is nothing serious happening.

gnorb has given you excellent fiber & eating recommendations. I am on a bowel program, and I recommend that you do not eat; cheese, rice, bananas, pasta, potatoes, as these foods are very constipating.

You must be careful about fiber supplements, until you see a doctor, because adding a supplement after this going on for some many years, may just constipate you further.

A doctor may want to recommend a specific colon cleanse to get things cleaned out.

"So is there a possibility that this could be something serious like cancer or anything like that?"

Yes, but the chance is very, very, very, very small. However, it could be other things which, while not as deadly, can still be horrible to go through if left untreated.

"It varies from day to day, so that's what makes me think maybe it's about what I eat?"

This is a huge clue right here, but unless you've spotted patterns -- writing down what you eat and your reactions within the next 72 hours -- then it could still be other things.

"Like my stomach is really sensitive to what I eat and I need a lot of fiber or something?"

Probably, and definitely. Again, take stock in what you're eating. Try to get to 40g of fiber a day (mostly from fruit and vegetable sources, not breads or supplements).Do that for a week and when it kicks in (trust me, you'll know when it does) see how you start feeling. Just a guess, it's probably dietary. And remember to drink lots of water -- H2O, not soda, juice, coffee, etc -- since that helps the digestion of fiber (and everything else) immensely.

BUT I'll stick with my previous comment and say that you should NOT be at all embarrassed to see a doc about stuff life this. As yorkieville said, it's just another bodily function, like burping, vomiting, urinating, menstruating, digesting, breathing, swallowing, post nasal drip, etc. All byproducts of this thing we know as working human physiology.  Knowing about and dealing with all those bodily functions (WHICH ARE NOTHING TO BE EMBARRASSED ABOUT) is what they're paid for.

Have you lost a lot of weight? How do you feel, other than not  being able to empty your bowels?  It does sound like it could be what you are eating, since you felt better taking a fiber supplement awhile back.

Do you eat a balanced breakfast, than give yourself time to use the bathroom?

You really do need to see a doctor.

It varies from day to day, so that's what makes me think maybe it's about what I eat?  Like my stomach is really sensitive to what I eat and I need a lot of fiber or something?

I took this fiber powder stuff earlier tonight, so I'll see if I notice any changes after taking that...

If I remember correctly, last time I felt better after taking this fiber stuff, but the container said not to take it for more than a week so I stopped after a week...

I agree with gnorb, I would see a G.I. Doc, first. He may suggest a colon cleanse, but it's safer to make sure nothing is seriously wrong. A colon cleanse could make things worse in that event.

I understand that it is embarrassing for you to talk to a doctor, but, they hear these things every day. Think of it this way, it is just another bodily function.

If you don't tell your doctor everything, he/she cannot help you.

You might want to try that, but I recommend you go to a doc first. And if you simply don't want to go to a regular doc, try a homeopathic or integrative medicine doc. But please, please, please stop being embarrassed about telling stuff like this to a doctor. To your mom, to friends, to random people on the street -- yeah, you can cool it there. Feel free not to share all the details. But with your doc, make your health an open book. It's the only way they can help you.

You really need to see a gastro-intestinal doctor, it sounds like your anal sphincter muscle is not relaxing.

If this has been going on for years, then I highly, HIGHLY recommend you go see a doctor to see what they can do.

That said, try some of the following:

Take stock of your diet: are you getting at least 25g per day? (I normally recommend at least 40g, most from vegetable and fruit sources. Try a blackberry/raisin combo for a very natural laxative effect. The fiber should help strengthen your bowels to help clean them out in one... err... sitting.) If not, try taking a psyllium husk supplement (like Metamucil). Do that for a few days (whatever it says in the instructions) and see how your body reacts. Psyllium husks bulk up stools, so maybe it'll help you clear your system better, on a more regular schedule. If you've done this for a few weeks and you're still having the same problem, then it's time to go see a doctor, period.

But frankly I'd drop the pessimism about  "Most the time they can't do anything to help anyway," and actually get some answers. If your doctor isn't helping you, find another.

Although I'm male I can commiserate with you.  I'm much older then you but in good health, eat right (so please don't anyone suggest fiber or adjusting my diet), get plenty of exercise but have a problem that is similiar in a lot of ways to yours.  Four years ago because of blood in my urine my urologist checked me out and found a tumour in my bladder.  I had to have it surgery and the whole thing removed.  After that my paristolis (if that's how you spell it) never came back.  I was told to be paitent and eat and it would start functioning.  In short you and I have the same complaint and that is failure to have a satisfactory evacuation.  The poop builds up in me and finally some will come out but five minutes later I feel like I need to go again but with no action to cause it.  It just sits there and makes me miserable.  I have been the route of all the doctors.  Two GI's. (after several times cleaning me out with both enemas and golightly sent me to a colon rectal surgeon who told me I didn't need surgery.  During all of this I had found a supplement called "Eliminator" which contained stimulative laxatives.  It worked but the GI's said oh you can't use that.  But at the same time just cut me loose.  I'm sorry that I don't have an answer for you or for me but I keep searching and am now in the Integartive Medicine Field.  These are M.D.s who are will to look at anything that will work and are not stuck on "what they do (read as in colonostomy) is the only way to go and anything else is wrong.  I have been told by doctors that I trust that once you bowels have been touched, moved around or subject to anithesia several times that your movement motion is gone and therefore taking laxatives can't do any harm.  Good luck.  I don't know the answer to my problem but I hope that I have helped you discribe your problem and that is "failure to have a satisfactory evacuation".

I have the same issue. When it starts to happen I eat Raisin Bran at night before I go to bed or warm water in a cup and add to tablespoons of Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar to it and drink before bedtime.
