acid or bile reflux?

I have been experiencing severe sore throats, a bitter taste in my mouth, chest pain, and stomach pain, and occasionaly dificulty swallowing for about 5 months now. My doctor put me on prilosec otc which seemed to have helped for about a month. Then he had me try protonix . I stopped that after 4 days bacause it made me sick to my stomach. The he had me on zantac (which also didn't work), now I' m on nexium twice a day. I've only been on that for a couple of days so I guess we'll see what happens. I went for an upper endoscopy yesterday and found that there was a lot of bile in my stomach. H e took biopsies of my stomach and esophagus so I'll find out the results in a week. The constant sore throat is really bothersome. Does anybody have any suggestions? If it turns out to be bile reflux I hpoe there is something that can help.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to get the results of my biopsy next Tuesday so I guess we'll see then.

You may want to consider asking your doc to check your gallbladder. If bile is the issue, you might want to talk to your doc about using a prepartion such as carafate which will coat the stomach and help protect against the bile. If the problem is bile, PPIs will be of no help.

You also may want to see if following a low fat diet might be of some help.
