I just wanted to let you know that I had an endoscopy 12/31/13 and experienced similar problems with the recovery. I have been suffering with acid reflux for 7 months now and have tried almost everything under the sun to relieve my symptoms. I am much better and I hope that you are better as well by now. Here is my observation regarding my procedure. I woke up in the middle of it and felt the probe in my throat. A day after the procedure started having intense pain only when I ate. After an ER visit and several doctor's visits figured out that my esophagus was damaged and bruised by gagging on the probe when I woke up. The intense pain lasted basically 2 weeks after the procedure and only got better after having a CAT scan done (it may be possible that the barium soothed the injury). The ER physician told me that the injury was temporary and it would heal eventually. However, I still experienced the severe acid reflux on a daily basis. Finally started drinking decaf green tea with honey and lemon after eating dinner before bedtime and it COMPLETELY HEALED MY GASTRIC REFLUX! It has been approximately 6 weeks since drinking my tea at bedtime and it totally took care of the problem. I wish that I had known that before starting Pantaprozole and having an endoscopy. I hope and pray that my information has helped you in some way. God Bless!
hey just wondering how all of you faired?? did your pain go away? it’s been five days since my endoscopy and i feel so much pain and cramping across my chest and the middle of my back which is also throbbing quite bad. the doctor took four biopsies but shouldn’t they be healed by now?? i’m so so worried
Hi,
I had undergone an upper endoscopy without sedation 2 days ago along with an ultrasound and blood works. Test came back fine just mild GERD. Reason the DR suggested to get the upper endoscopy was because i was going to the toilet a bit too often for the past couple of months. The procedure went well, biopsies were taken from 3 different area. Generally there was nothing wrong with me except that i needed a dietary change and to reduce my stress.
HOWEVER a day after the endoscopy procedure I woke up with severe acid reflux!! Now i know it's acid reflux because I experienced it once 3 years ago, it was a one time out of the blue thing and have never had another episode again after that. Please note before the endoscopy I was not on any medication for gerd or any stomach problems and generally i was fine. I took probiotics everyday and never had gastric or heartburn or anything that requires me to be on medication.
The dr did prescribe me nexium, ganaton, mallox and gaviscon after my endoscopy. So when I woke up with horrible acid reflux i.e. Chest pain and all I took the medication. Later in the afternoon the acid reflux came back. I was in discomfort the whole day and couldn't eat properly or sleep because it seems to get worse when I lay down.
Today is the second day after my procedure and I was woken up from the pain of acid reflux. The pain radiated from the chest all the way to the back. Now for someone who didn't really have a lot of problem.before the endoscopy, I'm beginning worry. I'll take the medications but I wanna know how long will this last? It won't be forever right? Waking up with acid reflux every morning?
I have a dr's appointment next week but till then I hope anyone who has had the same experience could share whether this will eventually go away and get better?
I had Nissen on 18/02/2016 and before my last endoscopy i could eat and drnik almost anything (coffee, alcohol,chocolate,etc..) but since my endoscopy on 17/01/2017, right after I had a stomach flu for 3 days with lots of diarrea, and after that I could not eat or drink the food/drinks that i could before the endocsopy, I am taking probiotics, antimetil, zinc, gember and omeprazole, and eat lots of meulsi and lactosefree milk, rice etc... I was wondering how this comes, I thought I had gastritis, but since it takes so long, and i read all these stories here, I am wondering perhaps also something damaged or so??
I had an endoscopy 10 days ago and since then I have a lot of heartburn and pain on an off.I am not able to eat anything then soups and liquids and already lost 7 lbs.Prior to the test I was not feeling this way.I am wondering if it will ever get better.I will see my GP wednesday and the gastroenterologist only in April.
I had my EGD two days ago. When I swallow food or drink I feel pain in my back/spine. I called on call Dr since it's after hours. He said my esophagus must be very very sensitive or maybe Dr took alot tissue for the biopsy. It feels like needles in my back. I also have discomfort when I swallow. I hope pain goes away!
Hi i am having this same problem i was wondering if you ever found out what was wrong i was fine before i had this endoscopy done now i feel sick to my stomach i wish i didn't have this done smh so scared help
I had both, endoscopy and colonoscopy, done at the same time in late March of 2016 and have had a persistent cough and swallowing problems with infection. I have been treated for pneumonia twice with antibiotics and one trip the the ED. I was given steroids and a z-pak. I just finished the latest round of antibiotics and am still having the cough and throat problems. I've had barium testing done and no results, yet here I am, still coughing up crud. Now I have an appointment in late August with another specialist and more out of pocket expenses. If I make it until this next appointment and at this point, probably another trip to the ED.
i recently had colonoscopy edonoscopy and a biopsy of my intestine to see if i am true celiac as i have been gluten free diet for 2 yrs... most of your explanation is what i have experienced and my wasit backside and stomach feel as if ive done 100 sit ups.. its just been a few days and the first day i slept felt ok and 2 nd and 3rd day went back to work on the 4th day and today is day 5 after and im just now experiencing and i feel like i might not make it to the bathroom in time as everything is going right through me still.. im wondering if this will eventually go away.. food has been cramping me like back when i was a kid as well and i had terrible pain and about doubled up in the store yesterday... do you have any insight as to why this is bothering me 5 days later??
Although I don't remember much of after the procedure, I remember feeling the tube during my colonoscopy for a brief period of time, and watching the procedure going on on the screen. I do not remember much other than that. I was two days ago and I also experience discomfort in my stomach, as I was punched and a pinch on a side + sore intestine. Slept a lot. Chest tight and difficult to get a deep breath at times. No sore throat from my endoscopy but tight esophagus. Might nausea at times and dizziness. Diarrhea with mucus and blood the night after the procedure. Can’t eat without stomach pain after. Felt heart beat in my stomach when lying down.
This is the reason why I Googled after procedure pains because it was my first procedure and didn't know what to expect afterward. Doctor only gave me instructions for eventual pain or complication around the area where the IV was placed, but nothing to soothe stomach pain. I find great information here and I will try some things that worked for other people. Thank you. I hope you all recover quickly after the procedure and I hope I will too.
Although I don't remember much of after the procedure, I DO remember feeling the tube during my colonoscopy for a brief period of time.
Two days ago upper endoscopy. Today nauseous diarrhea and extreme cramps. Feels like stomach flu. Feel like I could throw up but haven't. Is it the flu or a complication? I have no idea. Cane on really fast. I really do not want to go to the emergency room.
I just had an upper endoscopy done today, although I felt ok after having it done, I now feel tired and nauseous. My mom had one done, she said her symptoms lasted about 2 weeks. I find chewing on crushed ice helps and so does using a heating pad on my stomach and back. For the throat pain I've been eating popsicles. Hope this helps a little
I went yesterday. March 21,2016 and i have a lot. Of pain in my.throat and i have. Heart burn really bad AND BACK PAIN Not only tbat i am praying. For the. Results of HEALING. In JESUS NAME
I had an endoscopy yesterday and they did "conscious sedation" I was supposed to be under anesthesia but yesterday morning I ate a few very small pieces of candy not thinking about what I was doing. They wouldn't do anesthesia because of that. So I was awake but somewhat drugged up.
During my EDG they removed a polyp and dilated the esophagus. I am in extreme pain and had to go back to the hospital for X-rays, just to be on the safe side. the Dr said there was a pretty big divot where they removed the polyp and that pain is not unusual. He gave me Lydacane to numb the esophagus. So far my lips and the roof of my mouth are numb and that's about it. He did not know if the pain was from dilation of the esophagus or removing the polyp. He did say unfortunately the pain could last a few days. So far I've only had liquids and swallowing is horrifically painful.
I will check back in a couple of days and give an update.

Hi just following up on how you are doing. any relief from the symptoms you were having as I am not. Still have stiffness under my sternum and upper ribs and stomach cramping. Have lost 25 pounds since ED done on 060515. Please let me know if you are feeling better and what you did that helped you as I feel helpless. Have lost lots of work and on top of that dealing with my husband's prostate cancer. Will appreciate your feedback.

I had the exact same experience (3 weeks ago) and yesterday I was in unbearable pain. I went to the E.R. and they said that they accidentally punctured my intestine. If you haven't already you should really get that looked at.
I've had endoscopy/ colonscopy two days ago and am still suffering with the ability to swallow. Everything else seems fine. Can anyone tell me how long will it be before I can eat without pain.
