endoscopy

has anyone had an endoscopy wiyhout any sedation?
i did today and it went off perfectly.

Ive had a nose and throat scope and they sprayed inside my nose with some numbing agent..i still felt it a little but not to badly..not sure about going down my throat  passed my voice box without numbing though..I think that would be aweful

Yes, I know for sure that would happen to me. I gag when a doctor sticks that tongue depressor too far back, so I know there is no way I could or would do the endoscopy without being knocked out.

I have had one without any sedation - this was many, many years ago when I was still a teenager, so it's possible that sedation was not the "norm" at that time.  However, I remember every horrifying moment still to this day.  It was absolutely AWFUL!!!  Not only did they not sedate me, but they also did not spray my throat with anything to numb it, so I felt the endoscope inch it's way down andof course, it was constantly triggering my gag relfex.  Finally, after about 45 minutes of this torture, the doctor removed the scope and told my parents he would have to do it another time under sedation.  WHY IN THE WORLD HE DIDN'T JUST GIVE ME THE SEDATION TO BEGIN WITH I'LL NEVER KNOW!!!  I mean, it would be bad enough for an adult to go through that, but I was just a child!!

Fortunately, every scope I've had to have since that terrifying first one has been under wonderful sedation and the only thing I ever remember about them is being wheeled into the room, having my throat sprayed and being asked to turn on my side.  From then on, it's lights out!!

I'm glad you made out so well with it, but I know for me, I certainly would NEVER agree to it without sedation - just the fact of it bringing back horrifying memories for me would be enough for me to not be able to stay on the table!

yep i had one it was awful , i was awake , but thought they where suposed to sedate you . Glad yours was ok.

Brave guy:) I had one, but I was out like a light, so I don't remember a thing. I don't think I could be awake during that. Well, let me re-phrase that, I KNOW I couldn't be awake during that.:)
