Gallbladder disorders are usually not genetic, but they still tend to run in families. The test you had was HIDA scan. This can't always show functional disorders of biliary duct, so maybe MRCP or manometry of sphincer of Oddi would be necessary. So, the pain may be from organic cause or from impaired function (motility) - and this later is not easy to diagnose. But again, try to have all necessary investigations. I can't imagine what else could cause pain under the right rib cage. Gallbladder pain often occurs after a fatty meal. But if pain arises from bile duct, this is not necessary the case.
I was told some people like me just have a bad gallbladder. (7% EF no stone no sludge no thickening of the walls no bile duct problem & no pain) They don't bother to find out why because just taking it out is easier (for them). Of'course they often don't tell you the possible consequences and many people end up living suffering through it...
im not sure what test it was..but they injected som stuf that would make the pain in my gallbladder start an were like scanning for rocks but they couldnt find anything.
so they said it could be the bile sludge thing..but now my doctor rules that out and itslik theres nothing else that can be done.
and also...could gallbladder problems be genetic?
Pain, as you describe it, is typical for gallbladder/biliary tract disorders, especially, if it occurs after the fatty meal. ll investigations you've had so far, may miss smal stones, or a biliary sludge - this is a dense bile which can obstruct the bile flow in the biliary tract.
You may want to have HIDA scan, which shows the function of gallbladder.
MRCP (MRI investigation of biliary tract), as suggested above, may reveal the cause. Another investigation is manometry of sphincter of Oddi, made during gastroscopy.
I think, you should insist in searching for gallbladder/biliary cause. There are some neverending stories on this forum, where people had dozens of test of other organs done, and nothing found. The fact is, that changes in gallbladder/biliary tract can be either small, or are not of organic origin, but they are "functional", so they can't be discovered with imaging techniques, but by functional tests.
If it's not gallbladder it could be SOD - sphincter of Oddi hypertension (SOH)
Did they try MRCP/ERCP?
its under my ribcage on the right side.
like under the first 2 ribs on the bottom.
its kind of a re occuring thing every so often and lasting about 15-30 minutes.
Where exactly is the pain and when it occurs?
