when will it stop hurting?

my stomach has given me problems for about 2 years now, it started suddenly with a burning and stinging sensation all over my abdomen. i do not have insurance so i try not to cry wolf everytime i think something is wrong with me. when i finally went to a doctor for it they said it was gastritis and they need to test for h.pylori virus. the test came back negative so i was prescribed protonix and my stomach felt okay while i waws taking them. as soon as i stopped taking them i went back into pain. it starts at the lower abdomen and works up to right underneath the rib cage. it hurts everyday and i cannot find any relief for it, i've tried zantac, prilosec and nexium but nothing helps. the only thing that seemed to help a little was the protonix. i do not drink soda or basically anything carbonated, i stay away from spicy or oily/greasy foods, i try not to have anything that i think would upset my stomach. the doctor's told me to try not to stress beacuse this would trigger my body to produce excess acid? my mother has acid reflux *** well as my younger brother, could this just be a really bad case of acid reflux? any ideas on how to make this pain go away?

Hi, Sam is right, this could be so many things.
I have dealt with stomach pain for about 7 years, and it has recently gotten much worse. I understand what you're going through, and it is not fun and very frustrating.
I had about the same issue as you did a few years back and the doctors put me on protonix--this caused me to not be able to eat anything because it was actually taking away my acid when what I needed was for more acid to be put in my body. Im not sure if this is how it is in your case, but just wanted to make sure that you were aware of this. Because sometimes you will get that burning pain from having low acid, and not high acid--(doctors unfortunately dont always know everything--as I have found out).
Eating foods that dont bother the stomach is a great idea though! I would highly reccomend to you a natural supplement called GLUTAGENICS--this has licorice in it (but doesnt taste like it--it's very appealing and pleasing to the stomach)--this supplement helps to coat the lining of your stomach and just might help with your burning pain (I reccomend to put it in hot water and make it like a tea if you do try it out).

I wish you the best of luck and hope that you feel much better soon =)

Hi babygirl06790:

This could be SO many things.  You'll have to do some research to narrow it down.  If you don't have insurance and you can afford to buy some, now might be the time.

Here are a couple of things that I've found helpful.

Research!  Read old posts in this forum.  There is a fantastic research resource that I've found very helpful called "The First Principles of Gastroenterology": http://gastroresource.com/GITextbook/en/Default.htm.   This article has a chart with possible causes of abdominal pain:  http://www.emedicine.com/med/topic2740.htm.

Log!  Keep a journal.  It helps identify patterns in your symptoms, foods, medications, temperature and pain level.  You're welcome to read mine but I write a lot (can you tell?).  :)  http://www.medhelp.org/user_journals/show/12546?personal_page_id=8912

Reach Out!  You are not alone!  Try to stay positive.

When you do find answers, please post to let everyone know what you found and how you got rid of your symptoms.  It gives people on this site hope to hear success stories.

All the best,

Sam
