It is important for you to know the location of major arteries by locating the pulses.  Checking pulses at different body locations can ensure the location has adequate circulation.

That is an extremely interesting question.

The dorsalis pedis pulse on the right and left foot should be auscultated in addition to any other pulse to determine the circulatory status of the legs, as Londres stated, especially in the very elderly. Take special note of differentiation in intensity.

The carotid is the easiest to locate and palpate. When the patient is in shock or the blood pressure is low the wrist pulses may not be obtainable.

In traditional Chinese medicine the palpation of the pulses is used as a diagnostic tool, with different criterion, depending on the location of the pulse. In American medicine the rate and rhythym are often the only measures taken note off.
