Blood in urine but no red blood cells?

I had a psychical and the Dr. told me they found blood in the urine, but no red blood cells.  He stated that this could be because the RBC have broken by the time they enter the urine.  He described it as a balloon full of blood, where the balloon had popped (how lovely).  My question is, is it bad that these cells are breaking/I have only the blood and not the cell? Last year I had RBC in the urine, and now "broken down ones".  The DR did not seemed concerned.

Thank you
