Can you interpret Ultrasound Results?

Hi, I was sent to get the ultrasound done because I had little bit of pain in my groin area. My doctor is away on vacation so I can't see him for a while.I'm anxious to hear what my results mean. Can someone tell me if this is something serious? Here are the results: INGUINAL ULTRASOUND a hernia measuring 2.6cm x 1.2cm in diameter is present in the left inguinal region. The hernia contains omental fat. The hernia does not extend into the left scrotal sac. No other abnormality is noted. IMPRESSION Left inguinal hernia. SCROTAL ULTRASOUND Both testes are normal in size and internal architecture, The right epididymis is normal. A 6.4 mm cyst is present in the head of the left epididymis. There is no evidence of the hydrocele. Dilated veins measuring up to 3.2 mm in diameter are present in the left scrotal sac. IMPRESSION Left epididymal cyst. Left varicocele.

You have to be examined by a doctor to know that.  See a urologist.  Not all urologists do hernia surgery, but he can evaluate all the problems and advise about surgery and do surgery for the other issues if necessary.  He will explain all your options and surgery would not be done on the day of the first visit.  It's just a consultation.

Is this hernia considered large, small or medium size? Is the surgery necessary or can I live with it? What about the cyst. Is that something that I need to take car of?

Thanks

It's not serious.  All of these issues can be corrected with surgery if necessary.  The varicocele can affect how fertile you are by raising the temperature of your scrotum.  Any and all of these can cause discomfort.
