Sore baby toe

I have an unbearable pain in my pinky toe lately.  I originally thought it could be a corn or bunion but there is nothing visible.  Ive been told it could be nerve damage, too tight shoes, lack of vitamins, or arthritis. Anyone have any suggestions before I consider a foot doctor?

Have you tried some of those great inserts for shoes? It feels like walking on a cushioned water - that's provided you have a good wide supportive shoe.

Because you are on your feet so much and on concrete you may benefit from seeing a podiatrist... provided wider supportive shoes don't help that poor little toe. Let us know!

Good Luck

Thanks for your reply.

The soreness is mainly when wearing shoes and while walking or standing in one place.  I also need to mention that I stand 10 hours a day on concrete floor.  In addition, Im into cardio training but that is not a new activity. Blood sugar, thyroid and all blood tests are normal. Doctor did suggest some Vitamin D.  Therefore being that nothing has changed in my routine, my concern is what could cause this pain. I do agree that if it continues I need to get it checked out.

Thank you for your response.

Have not had an xray yet because feet do feel much better when not wearing shoes.  However, guess I should also mention that I am on my feet 10 hours a day on concrete floor. No visible redness or swelling.  And the pain is just with this toe.

Is it unbearable to touch with your hands? Or mostly when it's in shoes/standing/walking?

If you are beginning to experience nerve damage, you want to start massaging your feet and you toes increasing circulation and getting the blood flow back. Epsom salt soaks and a nice gentle massage with some pain relieving cream or gel. Walk barefoot as much as possible to strengthen your tendons and foot muscles. Otherwise, a large pair of soft slippers to keep it safe and cushioned from bumping into the leg of the coffee table.

How's your blood sugar? What are your normal activity levels?

Ger57 offers a good suggestion. Wider shoes may help, at the very least may make it feel better.

I live in well made flip-flops due to my bunions and foot pain. No, flip-flops are never recommended by podiatrists. It's true flip-flops are never truly well made. :0)  I'm well aware of those facts - but it's the only time my little piggys are fairly pain free.

Have you had an x-ray? I assume you have no swelling or redness?

If your pain continues your best source is a good podiatrist. Good luck and please let us know how you are doing.

I would suggest wearing wider shoes for at least a week and see if things improve.
