GI? high wcc and feeling sick and pain

hi, didnt know where to put this. I was diagnosed a couple of weeks ago with inflammatory bowel disease, im on steroids but my inflammatory markers have come down to normal again (crp and esr). they thought i had a UTI as a dip stick showed most things and i had pain in my sides, but the culture has come back normal on the urine sample.
Now i still have some aches and pains in my sides and stomach and have started feeling abit sick. I had bloods done yesturday for which the crp was normal etc but my WCC was high at 18.8 and my GGT was slightly raised suggeesting something with the liver?
I dont know whether to go to th emerngecy docs over the weekend or not.

Also, if the pain seems to worsen somewhat after taking the activated charcoal, stop taking it. It will flush out of your system pretty quickly.

If you get off those steroids, and aren't taking any meds that are for something that would be live threatening if you didn't have it in your system, like for thyroid or your heart or something of that nature, You might try taking activated charcoal. You can get it at the health food store, or , I think , Wal-Mart. Take it like the bottle says, until your side pain goes away, Then stop it. It absorbs bacteria. It will also absorb meds. so be sure you're not taking something that you need in your system before trying this. Hope it helps.

Hi,

the high white count can be caused by the steroids. Particularly as you do not have any CRP level (which usually is more sensitive) this probably is what happens.
When the urine culture was obtained, had you been on any antibiotic drug at that time? If so, you should not rely on a negative culture result; in that case you certainly had a UTI even if the culture was negative. How is the pain in your sides?
Anyways, I would probably see a doctor over the weekend just to make sure everything is allright.

Take Care,

Florian
