HELP! What can i take to help with my anxiety symptoms??

What can I take to help with the physical symptoms of anxiety? Every time I go to the doctor no one seems to really prescribe me anything so that i can feel normal again...My first anxiety attack was in early 2011..i had heart palptations..was prescribed medicine and i was fine..then something happened and i started to experience even more symptoms around july 2011..i went to the doctor they said i had anxiety again and didnt do anything about my symptoms but referred me to a couselor..i dont need a couselor i just need the symptoms to go away...

I went to the doc today and told him that I was having fluttering in my chest and my leg has been stiff and all he did was refer to me get a test done for my heart and ordered blood work..he said that i might just have anxiety and "its just something that i live with" (i dont want to live with anxiety..i never had anxiety in the past this all started in 2011)

My question is  what can i do to clear these anxiety symptoms completely? the physical symptoms like fluttering in my chest where somedays its hard  for me to sleep and my leg being constantly stiff? Is  there an herb that will help? something over the counter? Will exercising help? Also i picked up weight within over a year..a little more than pounds which i never been considered overweight before :( .

Thanks :) im going to try to go to another doctor in the next few weeks. Im just upset that i havent found an answer and wasted time going to that doctor. He absolutely has no bed side manner at all and i should find a way to report him. Best thing is for me to go to someone else. Im just tired of feeling like this. My leg feeling stiff and me being in a daze half the time..This has been going on for 2 years now..ever since the anxiety attack i had in 2011..all i found out is that my heart is functioning good...but the most important thing was the blood work and somehow whoever the person that took my blood didnt draw all the tubes for my blood work so i still dont have an answer...very incompetent. I think that I need an ultrasound on leg..

Oh dear, sorry to hear about that.

Hope you do find a good doctor that will listen to your problem.
I do hope you do go and have the xray taken because that will show if you have any arthritic changes that is making the leg stiff.

Let me know how you get on.

Best wishes.

My son has been taking CoQ10 and Magnesium for his anxiety attacks for a few years now, Not one anxiety attack since he began. I would definitely suggest you look into it, and try it after you've run it by your doctor. Hope this comment finds you well. NH

You definitely need your leg examined.  It could be that you have an arthritic problem in your hips or knees.

Arthritis in the knee would cause your leg to be stiff swollen and painful.
As well as lower spinal problems and hip problems can refer pain to the leg.

Elevate the leg as much as you can, but still use it otherwise it will stiffen up even more.

Let us know how you get on when you see your doctor.

Best wishes.

I hope your leg gets better too.
Have you found the going for a walk in the fresh air is helping you with your anxiety levels?

gymdandee has given out a lot of information which is very informative.

If you do drink coffee, cola, fizzy drinks, alcohol, keeps these to a minimum.  Caffeine (and this is usually in fizzy drinks) is a stimulant and this is what you do not need as it will make your anxiety even worse.  If you do drink a lot of caffeinated drinks, but aware that cutting down you may experience withdrawal symptoms like headaches, more anxiety and shaking.

Best wishes.

Avoid excitotoxins in your food. This includes MSG, aspartame, hydrolyzed proteins, vegetable protein, isolated protein, soy products
(including soy protein isolates, soy protein and soy milk), natural flavoring, sodium or calcium caseinate and others.
All of these additives worsen brain excitation and have been shown to specifically target the amygdala nucleus this is neurons in the brain’s temporal lobe.
That’s the processing of emotions.
Increase your vegetables to 5 servings a day. The flavonoids in vegetables can reduce anxiety especially hesperidin, quercetin and curcumin.
These are available as supplements. The dose is 250 mg. of each three times a day.  Buy Quercetin in a water-soluble form. Otherwise it must be dissolved
in fish oil or extra-virgin olive oil.
Reduce intake of fats saturated fats and omega-6 fats (vegetable oils, such as corn, safflower, peanut, sunflower, soybean and canola oils).
Studies show animals on high-fat diets release more cortisol and take longer to recover from stress than those on low-fat diets.
Magnesium is a natural calmative. It reduces excitotoxicity and when taken at bedtime, it aids sleep. It also reduces the immune
over reactivity seen with anxiety disorders.  It also reduces the risk of heart disease, stroke and type-2 diabetes.
White tea contains a flavonoid called epigallocatechin gallate. This has been shown to calm the brain and reduce anxiety.
The herb valerian has been shown to activate the same calming brain GABA receptor. It has been used to induce sleep
but also calms anxiety during the day. It shouldn’t be taken with medications that act as sedatives or tranquilizers.
Relora  is a blend of two extracts  Phellodendron amurense and Magnolia officinalis. Relora can reduce excess
cortisol levels associated with stress and improve mood and reduce stress. Avoid caffeine. People with anxiety disorders
hyper react to stimulants, such as caffeine. They can also worsen insomnia.

You should be able to get pure lavender oil from a herbal shop.
Have you not been back to the doctor yet to check your legs out yet?

Have you been going for walks or other forms of exercise or booked a Yoga session to see if it suits you?

Anything that helps you to relax and unwind is worth doing.  Start of slowly and build up gradually.  If you get really uptight, ring a friend and have a chat with them to get your mind off the anxiety.

The doctor can prescribe medication to help you calm down, but these are usually addictive.  If you are able to learn ways of coping strategies, liked mentioned earlier, this is much better than relying of medications.

But your leg may not be related to your anxiety and this needs to be looked at separately.

Hope you get on OK.

Lavender is supposed to be very relaxing and calming.
You can get some to use in a relaxing bath (lavender oil for use in a massage or to put a few drops in the bath water.  Lavender essence for culinary use, like in ice creams, drinks, etc.

You get a herb pillow made from it and also lavender wands.

I grow it in my garden, but this year haven't cut down the flowers as much as I would like to, because there are so many busy bumble and honey bees collecting the nectar.

You can also buy a lavender roll-on that you apply on to your forehead to help to relax and ease any headache.

You can also get herbal teas that are soothing and relaxing.  Like camomile tea which helps to calm.  You may find some different herbal teas at your supermarket.

Deep breathing and yoga.  Walking helps too.  I suffer from anxiety and it is "all in my head".  There are some good books out there about anxiety.

Yes, the spine runs from your neck right down to the tail bone.
Problems in the lower back can cause tingling and numbness in the leg depending which nerve is being pressed, pinched, or damaged.

You really need to get it checked out by your doctor so that you can get a correct diagnosis and for your doctor to check that there is no circulatory problem (problems with your veins in the leg).

Best wishes.

If you are experiencing pins and needles, there may be a trapped or pinched nerve in the lower spine.

Spinal problems can refer pain and pins and needles down to your legs and feet.

If you are not at ease with the doctor your saw, then it is a good idea to find a doctor that you can communicate with and one that understands your problem.

Some doctors (in my surgery) do not like to discuss more than one problem at a time.  Can be a nuisance sometimes, because occasionally different problems in the body can be all connected to the same illness.

Best wishes.

i guess that's what happened..i started to talk about my chest fluttering and he sort of over looked the knee/leg problem..started to talk about anxiety..and then made me an appointment to get my heart checked out....im going back to the doctor in about 4 weeks so i will mention it to him again about my leg..i am also getting blood work done..i think that i may have to get a new doctor b/c this doctor comes across as if he doesnt give a s***. I hate when some doctors act this way. My leg isnt swollen or anything its just stiff like a pins and needles feeling like i might need a muscle relaxant or something..im not too sure..like overactive nerves

If you eat a healthy and balanced diet, cut out junk food and fizzy drinks, you will not need to supplement your diet with vitamins and minerals.

Bread and cereals are now fortified with minerals and vitamins.

If you have not been eating well, I can understand that you may have depleted your body of essential vitamins and minerals.
Would the doctor do a blood test to check you out for any deficiencies?

Pins and needles can be a symptom of lack of the vitamin B group.  These are in meats, cereals, brown bread.  You may find more foods containing the Vitamin B group on the web.

When I suffered from pins and needles in my feet many years ago, my doctor prescribed the Vitamin B group.  Unfortunately it did not help me because my problem was actually a kidney stone pressing on nerves.

Best wishes.

A lack of Magnesium can cause muscle spasms.  Don't know which is better Magnesium Oxide or Magnesium Citrate... but even a bath with Epsom Salts can infuse Magnesium into your muscles.
