Accidental ingestion of unknown substance causing tongue burn

I bought a polo shirt from Goodwill on Sat. I wore it Sun without washing it. I have a bad habit of chewing on my clothes when stressed. I chewed my shirt collar. Immediately, it tasted bitter and caused tongue burn. The shirt also had a chemical smell to it, but I couldn't place it.

I have read that Goodwill sprays stuff with phenol/Lysol before selling, but when I called two Goodwill places they said they don't do anything to clothes. It just depends on how the person who donated cleaned the items before giving to Goodwill.

So, I have no idea what was used. It's a polo shirt, so it wasn't dry-cleaned.

I can only guess Lysol or some kind of disinfectant. Detergent? It smelled to chemical for that. Pesticide? Who knows.

So this happened last night and as of now about 14 hours later my tongue still burned. Contact with tongue was only a second or less. Which means it must have been a strong chemical to cause such burning in a short amount of time.

I did rinse my mouth out with water, Listerine, and apple cider vinegar last night when I tasted the bitterness. Even after all that the tongue tasted very bitter. No outward sign of any lesion or swelling on the tongue last night or now.

Today my joints started hurting at ankle, pelvis, fingers, wrist, etc. Mild pain that I didn't have before. Comes and goes. Tongue still hurts. No other symptoms such as nausea, headaches, difficulty swallowing, etc. I dripped some Vitamin E oil on tongue to soothe it and it did help, but the tingling and burning came back.

What could this substance be? Could it be a disinfectant? Is this serious? What can I take to get this out of my system - apple cider vinegar, lemon, charcoal, etc? Thank you.

i just called them again and got a different person. She said she doesn't know of any chemical on laundry that would cause tongue burn for this long - 5 hours tops. Even pesticides wouldn't cause this long of a symptom.

I did call them. The woman didn't know. Maybe I'll try again to get someone else.
